Novak Djokovic ready for his title defence at the US Open Championships – Tennis News
World number two, Novak Djokovic is enthusiastically waiting to defend his Grand Slam title at the hard courts of Flushing Meadows in New York.
In an interview Djokovic told the media, “I love playing in this tournament; the last five years I have had lots of success. It's incredible and a very unique feeling to come back to New York as defending champion. It's been
a long season and a long summer, but my year has been really good. I actually try to always look from a positive side. I do feel physically stronger and [more] prepared than I did last year. Mentally I had some ups and downs throughout the season, but I think
that was maybe expected in a way. It's normal to have ups and downs.”
The second seeded Serbian has successfully sustained his past record of reaching the semi-finals of the US Open Championships since the year 2007. He won three Grand Slams in his career before and has made a season record
of five ATP World Tour Masters 1000 crown. In the year 2011 he topped the world charts due to excellent run of form.
Djokovic defended his crown at the Australian Open and Sony Open held in Miami this year. He faced a shocking upset at Wimbledon Championships and was unable to defend his bronze medal at the London Olympics. However, the
Serbian right-hander regained back the momentum, by winning the Rogers Cup in straight set against the Frenchman, Richard Gasquet. Djokovic was also the finalist at the Western and Southern Open held in Cincinnati against reigning world number one, Roger Federer.
The 25-year-old is motivated to secure his lost glory. The Serbian believes that his upsets in the past will surely not affect his confidence for the US Open, as he proceeds toward his final destination one step at a time.
The Championships is last Major tournament of this year and his success will surely mark an emphatic end to his current rankings.
The Serbian tennis ace will be contesting against the unseeded Italian underdog Paolo Lorenzi in the first round. He had been drawn in the same half as the fourth seed, David Ferrer in the tournament.
