Novak Djokovic sidelines Janko Tipsarevic in the semi-finals – Rogers Cup
World number two, Novak Djokovic defeated his fellow fifth seeded Serbian, Janko Tipsarevic, 6-4, 6-1 in the semi-finals of the Rogers Cup. The defending champion contested for four hours on Saturday at the hard courts of
the Toronto, Canada, to reach the title match of the coveted tournament.
Djokovic was able to defend all the seven break points against his serve in the match, marking his lead in the contest since the start. The ninth ranked Serbian struggled hard to equalize the scores in the first set and was
only able to do bring the scores down to 4-4 towards the end of the set. However, the Serbian number one raised the level of his game and nudged two games in a row to attain a 6-4 win.
The world number two successfully managed to hit a handful of aces in the match and won 53 percent of the first serve points. His first serve points rating were comparatively higher than his opponent’s, who could just save
50 percent of his break points.
In the second set, Djokovic did not face much competition at the hands of Tipsarevic. The world number nine could not win a single breakpoint in the entire set and was able to bag nine percent of the first return points but
had a higher second return point scores than Djokovic. As the game kicked, it was evident that Tipsarevic had lost his confidence, making the rpath to victory a lot easier for Djokovic.
The top seed has drastically improved in his match and now indicated that he is the favourite contender for winning the Toronto title. After the withdrawal of the leading world champions, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, the
finals stage is ready for him to rock. The former world number one will be contesting against Richard Gasquet in the title match. Although he cannot overtake Roger Federer in the ATP World Rankings but he will surely play for the US Open in a better form than
before. He desperately needs to bag home the Rogers Cup, if he intends to sustain his top rankings in the world chart this year.
