Novak Djokovic still cherishes the salvation of two match points of the US Open 2011 – Tennis News
Former world number one, Novak Djokovic, won the US Open title last year by defeating the Spanish number one, Rafael Nadal, in the grand finale of the tournament. It was one of the best moments of the career of Djokovic. He can’t
get over that moment and the Serb is back to the same arena defending his title against the likes of world number one, Roger Federer, Olympics gold medallist, Andy Murray, and the Spanish hero, David Ferrer.
A lot of other names are also considered to be the possible US Open Champions and top of the list of underdogs who can upset the top seeds include the likes of Olympics bronze medallist, Juan Martin Del Potro, the French powerhouse,
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, and the American tennis ace, John Isner. There will be no Rafael Nadal in this edition of the US Open Championship because he is still suffering from a chronic knee injury that incurred in the second round of the Wimbledon Championships
at the All England Lawn Tennis Club.
Djokovic commented about the crucial point in the last year’s finale when he was facing two match points at 5-3, 40-15 in the finals set, “It brings me the nicest memory, that’s for sure. That point saved me from losing the semi
finals and giving me the opportunity to win the title. I have done it. This is another example that on this highest level in men’s tennis, few — maybe one point, one shot — can decide a winner. Yeah, it was a great shot, and it’s something that I will remember
forever.”
The stage is set for the Serb to claim the title but the Swiss Maestro, Roger Federer, is the spectators’ hot favourite to win his 18th Grand Slam title of the career. It will be an epic battle between the Top-2 seeds
unless they are a victim of a premature upset. Djokovic has done it before and he can easily do it again provided the concentration and willpower to succeed remains constant throughout the glory hunt.
Tournament begins on the 28th of August. Djokovic will begin his title defence on the second day of the tournament.
