Novak Djokovic thinks that Andy Murray can capture the Wimbledon title – Tennis News
World’s current best player, Novak Djokovic, has shared his believes that the British number one, Andy Murray, can win this year’s Wimbledon Championships at the All England Club in London.
Djokovic defeated the Brit in an exhibition match in Boodles on Thursday but the Serbian thinks that the result of that match does not affect Murray’s chances.
The Serbian said, "Andy's chances are always strong. Maybe the media is too hard on him for not winning a grand slam, but he's a quality player.”
Praising his rival, Djokovic also stated that the Brit is an all round player, who can play impressively on all the surfaces.
The Serbian juggernaut added, "He's an all-round player who can play on all different types of surfaces. He's been in the semi-finals of Wimbledon three times, he just needs a little bit of luck and a good day when he plays big
matches."
Murray has been permanently in the Top-four for the last many years now but the best three have deprived him off the utmost prize. The Brit has already lost in three Grand Slam finals, losing to Federer twice and Djokovic once.
The only British player in the top 100, Murray has reached the last-four stage at the Wimbledon Championships consecutively in the last three years but failed to win on all the occasions. The right-hander was overpowered by former
world number one, Andy Roddick, in 2009 and by Nadal in the next two years.
Murray is aiming to become the first player from his country to win the Wimbledon Championships after a gap of almost 80 years. However, his chances look bleak, as he has failed to play at the top of his game in the recent months
due to a back injury.
In the only warm up event that he participated before the third Grand Slam of the season, Murray was stunned by Nicolas Mahut in three sets 3-6, 7-6(4), 6-7(1) in the second round at the AEGON Championships at the Queen’s Club
in London.
During a recent interview, the 6ft 3in tall was asked about his preparations for the Wimbledon Championships. The Brit replied, "I think my preparations have gone very well. Queen's was obviously disappointing, but here the results
weren't important at all. I'd have liked to have done better at Queen's.”
The 25-year-old has a tricky first round match, as he faces former world number three, Nikolay Davydenko of Russia, in the opener.
