Novak Djokovic tops Grigor Dimitrov in his opening match – Shanghai Rolex Masters 2012
Second seed, Novak Djokovic, routed the Bulgarian star, Grigor Dimitrov, in straight sets at the Shanghai Rolex Masters 2012 on Wednesday. He nudged up a 6-3, 6-2 victory against the world number 56 to power into the third round at this ATP (Association
of Tennis Professionals) Masters 1000 event held in Shanghai, People’s Republic of China.
The Serbian number one needed less than an hour to outclass Dimitrov in their first encounter. After recording this victory, Djokovic not only edged in the FedEx ATP Head 2 Head Series by 1-0 against the 21-year-old but also secured a place in the round
of 16 at this outdoor hard court event.
"Very pleased with my serving in Beijing and obviously the first match today," said the Serb in a courtside interview after conquering the French resident. "So that's something that I've been working on, obviously. Relying on the serve in today's tennis
is a big advantage. So I try to get as many free points as possible. Today that was the case. It helped me a lot to defeat my opponent."
Ranked second in the world, Djokovic made a thunderous entry at the Qizhong Forest Sports City Arena. He broke his rival’s opening serve and jumped to a 3-0 lead. The Serb held his remaining serves with poise and eventually sealed the opener by winning six
games to three. He swiftly swiped his entire serves without facing any hindrance and cashed in the lone break chance in the second game to inch towards the fame.
The 25-year-old maintained his intensity in the proceeding set. He got the coveted break in the opening game and jumped to a 2-0 lead. Djokovic then held his composure to keep his remaining serves and capitalised on another break chance in the second last
game, eventually clicking the set with a 6-2 success.
Djokovic will lock horns with Spain’s Feliciano Lopez who stunned 16th seeded Philipp Kohlschreiber in straight sets to set up this meeting.
The top seed, Roger Federer, also stole the limelight later that day. He outshined the Taiwanese qualifier, Yen-Hsun Lu, in straight sets to progress.
