Novak Djokovic trounces David Goffin to enter round two – French Open 2013

Top seed, Novak Djokovic from Serbia, outmuscled the Belgian challenger, David Goffin, in straight sets at the Roland Garros 2013 on Tuesday.
He recorded a 7-6(5), 6-4, 7-5 victory against the Belgian to power into the second round at this second of the four Grand Slam events taking place in Paris, France.
The world number one, Djokovic, warded off early resistance to outsmart the Belgian in their first encounter. He required 2 hours and 13 minutes to prevail and inched a step closer to become the fourth man to complete his career Grand Slam.
The Serbian ace commented in a courtside interview after clicking the match, “He did really well at the start, and throughout all the match he was playing really nice tennis from baseline. It was a tough match. I needed to fight all the way through every
set, and I served well when I needed to and played my best tennis when it was most important.”
In the opening set, both contestants showed tremendous skills and ruled their serves. They held their respective serves and dragged the set to a tie-breaker. Djokovic edged past the Belgian in it and pulled out the opener with a 7-6(5) win in 46 minutes.
Djokovic raised the bar of his game in the following set. He got the coveted break in the third game and leaped to a 3-1 lead.
Despite losing his edge in the eighth game and trailing 0-40 in the proceeding game, the Serb stayed focused and consequently sealed the set by winning six games to four. The 26-year-old maintained consistency in his game in the third set. He swiftly bagged
his entire serves with conviction. The Serb got the breakthrough in the second last game and clinched the decider with a 7-5 score line.
Up next for the top seed is the Argentinean challenger, Guido Pella.
He reflected about his next match-up, “I know he's one of the specialists on clay; that [he's] a new player that is coming up and he made some surprising wins... He must possess a good quality. Today he won a marathon match. I'm going to have to prepare
myself and be on top of my game.”
The former world number seven, Fernando Verdasco, will join Djokovic in the proceeding round. He dumped the local wild card entrant Marc Gicquel with a breadstick to advance. The Spanish star recorded a 6-2, 6-3, 6-1 score line against the 36-year-old at
the Stade Roland Garros.
