Novak Djokovic unwillingly retires from BNP Paribas Masters – Tennis News
World No.1, Novak Djokovic, had to pull out BNP Paribas Masters due to his recurring shoulder injury. He gave walkover to Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France in the quarter-final of the tournament and unwillingly stepped out of the arena
with despair and pain.
Soon after his retirement announcement, he was surrounded by media representatives and while talking to them, he commented on his chronic injury and retirement from BNP Paribas Masters 2011 in following words “I am very sorry for
the tournament and the fans in Paris but my right shoulder is hurting again after winning my first two matches here," said Djokovic, who won the 2009 title. The doctors have advised that I should rest my shoulder and start treatment as soon as possible. I
look forward to returning to the court in London and competing at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals."
He was an unstoppable force throughout this year and had compiled a 69-4 win-loss record this year. He has been suffering from this injury since September and missed two major tournaments, China Open and Shanghai Masters, for the
same reason. Hectic tennis schedule throughout the year has denied the reigning World No.1 from healing completely and return to the tennis arena with 100% fitness.
Djokovic promised his fans to return into the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals fully fit. His retirement from Paris left his fans dejected all across the globe; they were eager to see their hero in action after such a long break
but they unfortunately they could only see two encounters on trot. They will have to wait till the season-end finale to see their champion performer back in action.
Serbian tennis icon defeated Ivan Dodig of Croatia in straight sets and bounced back one set down to place a quarter-final berth against his compatriot Viktor Troicki. He was looking threatening to win his 11th title
of the year in Paris before his retirement announcement. He won three out of four main Grand Slam titles including US Open, Wimbledon and Australian Open.
Injury issues and hectic schedule has kept a lot of top notch players out of tennis circuit recently. Roger Federer also took rest and didn’t participate in Shanghai Open. Maria Sharapova has also been struggling to live up to
the expectations of her fans as she is suffering from a severe chronic shoulder injury.
Novak Djokovic is expected to win the season-end finale and seal his emphatic year on a classic thumping note. Barclays ATP World Tour Finals takes place from November 20-27 at prestigious O2 Arena, London.
