Novak Djokovic vs. Andy Murray: Final Preview – Australian Open 2013
Once again, two of them most talented tennis super stars are to face each other in the final of a Grand Slam tournament at the Melbourne Park, Australia. The reigning world number one, Novak Djokovic, will be battling out hard
to defend his Australian Open title against the fury of the British number one, Andy Murray, at the glorious Rod Laver Arena.
The grand finale of the mega event will be played on the eve of Sunday and winner shall be crowned with the Grand Slam Down Under title. It is not the first time that these two belligerent men are facing one another in a Major
final but they already have featured memorable matches like this in the past. It will be the ultimate test of nerves and skills for both top class contenders and only one will come out as the winner.
Djokovic went through a record six-hour marathon thriller against the King of Clay, Rafael Nadal, to win the Australian Open title past year. He might have to undergo another five-set nail biter against the third seed Murray on
Sunday, as the Brit has been in exceptional form during the past few months. Djokovic has been cruising through the initial rounds of the Grand Slam Down Under and outplayed the world number five, David Ferrer, comprehensively in the semi-final battle to reach
the title match.
On the other hand, Murray registered the biggest upset of the tournament by hunting down the Swiss Maestro, Roger Federer, in the semis. He went through five gruelling sets against Federer on Friday’s eve but managed to manoeuvre
his way to victory, outplaying the hot favourite world number two in a stunning manner. Murray was delighted to register another victory over Federer but he is eyeing to repeat the 2012 US Open final’s results this Sunday. The Brit defeated Djokovic in New
York last year to capture his maiden Grand Slam title and has earned another opportunity to pocket one more Major title.
“I think I started to play better tennis and played my optimum level more in the big matches over the last year or so, which hadn't always been the case,” Murray said of his upcoming match. “So I think that's kind of what's changed
for me. Two years ago, [Djokovic] didn't lose a match for the first six months.  It's tough to know whether you can actually improve from that. But he's still playing well. He's No. 1 in the world. He was in the US Open final, [Roland Garros] final, Wimbledon
semis, and he's in the final here. So he's playing extremely well.”
Djokovic leads 10-7 against Murray in the all-time head-to-head record. These two encountered each other on seven occurrences in 2012, with Djokovic winning four and Murray standing tall on three occasions.
Murray’s six of the seven wins against the Serbian juggernaut have come on hard courts. The way he played against Federer in the semi-final has given him a real confidence boost and he will come out all guns blazing at Djokovic
in the final. Despite being the world number one and the defending champion, Djokovic is second favourite for winning the final clash on Sunday. Murray is the hot favourite to win his second Grand Slam title and it will take him at least five sets to hunt
down the Serbian number one.
