Novak Djokovic was mentally upset in the final against Rafael Nadal – Tennis News
World number one, Novak Djokovic, finally lost to his arch rival, Rafael Nadal, in the final of the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters 2012. The Spaniard bagged the title for the eighth consecutive year and registered a new history yet
again. However, the Serb tennis icon was going through the tough time in his life having learnt about the death of his beloved grandfather, last week. He mentioned himself that he ‘just wasn’t there’ against the defending champion on Sunday.
He stated, “I had no emotional energy left in me. It was a bad day. I just wasn't there. I've never been caught up in this kind of emotional situation before. It's been a very difficult week for me to go through mentally. I won
three matches since the news [about his grandfather]. I think I did pretty well."
It is always difficult to cope with the fact that one of your beloved relative has left you forever especially when he is someone whom you have grown up with. Djokovic’s grandfather was very close to him and the Serb shared everything
with him. They were the best friends and now the tough man has to deal with all the problems himself. It is always very tough to absorb so much tension and perform with all the brilliance you got in such situation.
Former world number one of Spain stated in a post-match interview, “Yes, Djokovic wasn't the real best Djokovic. In other finals that I played against him, I wasn't my real best, too. But the real best are both. My real best is
when I play well and when I play bad.”
Everyone was expecting a gruelling three-setter at the red clay courts of France but this heartbreaking news clearly took the flare out of the match. It will take some time before the Serb gets back to his routine of winning clash
after clash. However, the season is for the King of clay, Nadal. And he needs to prove it to the world that he is still the best clay court player in the world.
Next up for both players is the tour of Rome and Madrid in May. Everyone is hoping that Djokovic recovers from this major loss and makes a monumental comeback before the year’s second Grand Slam tournament, the Roland Garros French
Open, starts in the last week of May. All sympathies are with the Serb but he needs to forget it for the greater good.
