Reigning world number one, Novak Djokovic of Serbia, has been drawn to the day one of the Mubadala World Tennis Championship starting from 29th of this month. The glorious exhibition event will be played in Abu Dhabi
International Tennis Complex inside the Zayed Sports City, with the top ranked mighty Serb taking on the world number 16, Gael Monfils of France, in his opening match.
The $250,000 winner-takes-all tournament features the top class tennis professionals, who are becoming a part of the event to get warmed up for the 2012 ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) season. Other top stars playing
the Mubadala World Tennis Championship include the former world number one, Rafael Nadal of Spain, the Swiss Maestro Roger Federer, world number five David Ferrer and the sixth ranked Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France.
Djokovic had a record breaking tennis season in the current year and desires to keep on with his winning impetus in the coming season also. The top ranked finished off the year with an outstanding 70-6 winning record, bagging total
of 10 ATP championship titles to claim the Player of the Year 2011 award from the ATP. The 24-year-old stood victorious in three Grand Slam titles, the Australian Open, Wimbledon Championships and the US Open, in this season to remain the most successful player
of the year.
Djokovic’s campaign at the circuit ending grand finale, the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals, was very disappointing for the Serb fans, as he got dumped in the round robin stages whilst the tennis lovers were anticipating seeing
him lift the trophy at the glorious O2 Arena in London. Djokovic lost his matches to David Ferrer and Janko Tipsarevic to end his voyage at the coveted mega event.
16th ranked Monfils also had a decent season, finishing off with a 38-16 winning record and one championship title in his pocket. The 25-year-old French has never beaten Djokovic in all of their eight encounters and
had always bowed out to the magnificence of the Serb. Both men will start the proceedings at the Mubadala World Tennis Championship on Friday night, with the motive of getting their rhythm for the coming season.
Federer and Nadal have already given spots in the semi-finals of the event and the winners of day one will meet them in the round of four to battle for a spot in the final. Winner of the clash between Djokovic and Monfils will
take on Federer, while Ferrer and Tsonga will also encounter on Friday to meet Nadal in the semi-final round of Mubadala World Tennis Championship.
