Novak Djokovic’s immature behaviour at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia – Tennis Special
Top ranked tennis player, Novak Djokovic, behaved in a shocking manner during his round of 16 win at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia in Rome, Italy on Thursday. Djokovic was facing Argentina’s Juan Monaco in the third round encounter,
when he was broken by his inform opponent in the first set.
When Monaco served for the opener at 5-4, Djokovic looked desperate to bounce back and level the score. The Serbian was going in the right direction, as he created a break opportunity on Monaco’s serve at 30-40. However, after
getting in a good position, the reigning world number one lost that point.
Unable to capitalise on the chance, Djokovic could not control his anger and struck his racket on the court in a pretty bad manner but it did not lose its shape.
After that, the Serbian saved a couple of set points but could not put away the third one to go down 4-6. At that moment, Djokovic acted like an animal and again slammed his racket on the court. Though, this time he did not bang
it once but twice. The Serbian smashed it so badly this time that it got broken, completely losing its shape.
Now it’s important to note that Djokovic, being the number one ranked player and the top seed at almost all the events, is followed by many fans. The five-time Grand Slam winner is the idol of many youngsters, who try to copy every
act of his.
My question now is what his young fans will learn from him after seeing this? Would not they start copying this act of their idol in similar situations? Would not they start slamming their rackets on the court and breaking it after
losing a close point or set?
Young fans don’t understand that Mr. Djokovic broke one of his sponsored rackets, which would have been replaced by the company without wasting any time but their rackets are purchased by their parent’s hardly earned money.
The Djoker should start acting more responsibly now, as he is no more an upcoming player but the world number one, a position which also puts some duties on your shoulders. A top ranked player must behave in the best possible manner,
as he acts an ambassador for the sport.
The Serbian should have apologised for his actions but instead of being sorry he was joking once again and shamelessly said we will repeat such behaviour in future.
The 24-year-old said, after the match, "It's not the first time and I don't think it will be the last time -- I'm a player with a lot of emotion. I hope kids didn't see it. But then it changed the match. The momentum swung to my
side."
Maybe, Djokovic has found this way of throwing out his desperation, as he has failed to repeat his last year’s performance in this season. The Serbian said a couple of months back that he is in the same form as he was last year
but I think he has failed to notice that he has already lost four matches in 2012 so far. He had not lost even a single match until the French Open last year.
Djokovic has a habit of behaving immaturely, as he is the same person who tore his shirt in the middle of the court after winning against Rafael Nadal at the Australian Open final earlier this year.
The Serbian should remember how Roger Federer and Nadal used to act when they were world number ones and learn something from them.
