I am American, and I was wondering the skills it takes to play rugby. I am 6'5 180lbs. I know a little bit about the game, and I would like to play in college. I play sports at my high school, so I think I am in good shape. Well thanks

  1. Firstly if you want to be any good with your size you"ll either need to be really fast with good hands (passing, reciving) or put on some weight and be able to push other guys off the ball

  2. Like Francis said, Unless your really fast or really good with at passing, it would be good to put some weight on. Try doing weights to bulk up, as at 6 ft 5 you dont weigh much. Im 6ft and weigh 210 pounds. You would be a fantastic second rower if you could put on more weight (not fat, muscle)

Goodluck! its great fun so just have a go

Have alook at above website it has training methods etc for each position.

  4. If you enjoy the game, play it.

  5. 180lbs..yeah maybe a little bulking up but make sure you develop leg power too. I'm 5'9 Openside and play at 185ish as a point of reference.

Whatever you do, get stuck in, have fun and make sure you have good quick hands and vision and positional awareness.

A good side step is handy, people won't be expecting it from a big guy such as yourself.... oh and finally, practice your hand off/fend it's a REALLY useful defensive weapon that's underused these days.
