I just heard that hurricane Gustav is going to be announced as a Cat 5 hurricane, with stronger intensity than Katrina.

  1. Yes, it will at some time be a 5.  The intensity depends on where you live.  New Orleans was on the west side of Katrina.  The west side is the milder side.  This time New Orleans will be on the east side which is a lot worse.  Going by that, then yes, it will be more intense.

  2. It is possible that it could reach Cat 5 intensity, but it has not done so yet.  The latest recon report I see does not yet support Cat 5 intensity.

The latest update just issued at 5 PM EDT has it at 150 mph sustained, just short of Cat 5 status.

  3. yes but it is predicted to lower when it hits land

  4. What I just read said that when Hurricane Katrina actually hit the U.S. it was a Category 3.  It had been a Category 5, but by the time it hit it was only a 3.  Then they went on to say that Hurricane Gustav could be a Category 4 when it hits the U.S.  That's why they are saying it could be stronger than Katrina.

    I hope not.  :-(

  5. Yes, it could be a Cat. 5, but I don't see it happening just yet; Not until it reaches the gulf on Sunday night. When it makes landfall on Monday night on the coast; It may die down some.

  6. i hope it wont becom a cat 5, and if it does, i dont think it could be worse than katrina. Katrina was a cat 3 at land fall, but it had a HUGE eye in the storm, and loads of water, i live in biloxi, we cant take another one

  7. oh i thought it was four! uh oh i have to leave by tomorrow bring my dog i dont know about my fish but we will try

  8. No .. right now it is a Cat 4 .. they just mean that it could very well TURN INTO a Cat 5 .. when it gets into the Gulf of Mexico.
