  1. As much as I HATE the Yankees I have to agree with Buzz. It's still to early to tell 11 out from first or 5 out from wild card is not alot. There is still enough time left in the season.

  2. Gee, they seem to be behind the Red Sox about 5 or 6 games every year in August and still go on and beat them by the end of the regular season. Wait, that is until last year!!!! Yankees are too old to come back.

  3. yankee fans have the biggest "never say die" attitude of any fans ive ever met..it will be september 25th and if they are 10 GB they will still have faith

and you can never EVER count a team out, especially in mid-August, now more than ever due to the epic Mets collapse last year (sorry mets fans had to bring it up)..and twins whipping them?? they won the first game 4-0 (not to take away from Perkins great performance) and i hardly consider that getting whooped. especially with mussina on the mound tonight who is 22-6 lifetime against the Twins, i think any team is still in it until they get knocked out

the beauty of baseball and its long season is that anything can happen on any given day

  4. Last time I looked the season wasn't over.  There are 162 games.  Until the math says so Yankee fans should not concede anything.

  5. Yeah, I just don't think they can put it together and come back. Tampa Bay and Boston should close out the year on top, but as we have learned many tiimes, it isn't the best idea to count the Yanks out. I think they have a great squad, but they just couldn't mix everything together this year, and I feel they are too far out at this point to turn it on. I'm sure they will make it interesting come September, but next years success seems to be the more likely worry at this point!

  6. Yankees fan here. I'll say the Yankees are probably done chasing the division. Nine games is tough to make up, even though the Rays will be without Longoria and Crawford for a bit.

But the wild card is still VERY much in play. They can make up five games and catch Boston/Minnesota. It won't be easy, but it's possible. Thing is, they have to start hitting and can't mail it in like they did last night.

Edit: SandMan, yeah we do have that. Considering this team hasn't missed the playoffs in 14 seasons (excluding the '94 strike year), it's hard for me or others to throw up the white flag, especially on Aug. 12. And yeah, the beauty of baseball is something. You go on a 5-game winning streak, your team is World Series bound. You lose 5 or 6 games straight, your team is a bunch of bums who should be traded out for a bag of peanuts.

  7. I'm not a Yankees fan at all, but only a fool would ever count them out this early. The Rays are being hit with some big injuries, and they are only five back in the wild card. While I hope they miss the playoffs, I wouldn't count them out until they are mathematically eliminated.
