  1. It is the politicians and the military that have caused the bulk of the trouble in Ireland.

    Stop blaming the people.

And stop assuming that the British people are cheerleading the oppression of the Irish.

Most British people don't approve of British troops being involved in Afghanistan and Iraq.  But they are still there despite all the protests.   Think about it.

I refuse to apologize for something I haven't done and I am not responsible for.  Get over it.

And for your information, I am British, and I know my father's family is Irish because I know my family tree, which goes back several hundred years. My father's family originate from Connemara.

  2. You have your facts wrong Nothing has changed there is still Northern Ireland and the republic of Eire. As for compensation forget it. Have the IRA ever compensated England for the deaths and damage caused ? No.

  3. Everybody wants compensation for their dead ancestors. Forget it and start fresh.

  4. The majority of people in Northern Ireland want to remain part of the United Kingdom, a large minority want to join the Republic of Ireland - that's why there were the troubles. But sovereignty must be decided by the majority of inhabitants. Only when the majority of people in Northern Ireland want to join the Republic should the UK support a United Ireland.

As for compensation, I don't think the sins of the fathers should be past onto their children. There is no one in Britain today who would support the crimes committed by the British in Ireland over the last 800 years, most Brits are ashamed of what happened during the empire and its creation.

Besides, does Ireland need compensation? The Irish economy is one of the strongest and richest in the world, and the British and Irish governments and people could not be closer. Clearly they've moved on - why don't you?

  5. Probably not but what about good things that britain has done for ireland?

  6. Probably not.  Britain has been ******* us over for a very long time. Why stop now?

Not like they've compensated Indians. Or Americans, French, or Africans, for that matter.

  7. Why should they?  They never compensated people in any of the other countries they subjugated, like the USA.

  8. Firstly, I don't remember seeing anything in the news about Britain accepting a united Ireland.

Secondly I don't remember seeing anything in the news about Ireland accepting a united Ireland.

Thirdly, since most of the suffering in Ireland over the last 100 years was caused by other Irish, shouldn't it be the paramilitaries who should pay the bulk of the compensation?

  9. That's news to me mate. Until the people in Ulster vote to break from the UK, it's not gonna happen. Please tell me that you don't want decades of more misery for the people of Ulster. And i mean both sides of the religious divide. let your people enjoy life, not bury more loved ones.

  10. No they wont. They will only accept a united Ireland when the majority in the North want it. This is still some way off.

  11. SAOIRSE- do you know Ulster is one of the 4 provinces of Ireland? and the province of Ulster has 9 counties? and if those 9 counties voted on whether to remain part of the UK or to be in a united Ireland they would in all probability chose a United Ireland. Surely you mean the people of Northern Ireland in your answer and not the people Cavan, Monaghan and Donegal who are part of the Republic of Ireland?
