  1. As a kid I use to go to several every summer.  It was a long day but it was always worth it.  Today management is always looking to maximize every dollar.  Why give the fans a break?  It doesn't make and sense.  After all, how are they going to pay the players these insane contracts if they give the fans a break.  Pretty soon we will be charge by the inning.

  2. First, you should say "one double header" as two would imply a total of 4 games

  3. I have never been to one but I would love it. Two baseball games in one day: what could be better than that?

  4. I hit the greatest double header ever last year.  Texas vs. Baltimore on August 22.  The Orioles lost both halves, 30-3 followed by 9-7.

The first game was a make up game from the day before and it was great.  I have never seen a team score 30 runs in a game.

  5. No it is actually very tough to do unless you are a season ticket holder OR you buy tickets for the second game in the streets

  6. The last doubleheader I went to was on 9/6/06 at Shea Stadium, Mets vs. Braves. Oliver Perez shut out Atlanta in Game 1 and the Mets won the nightcap.

It was necessitated becuase it was the last date of a 3-game series and the last time Atlanta was in NY. The Braves flew home that night and both teams played the next day (Thursday)....any DHs since then in NY have been Day-Night DHS so they can get 2 gates.

The Mets' last "scheduled" DH was against Montreal in August, 1988.

  7. i used to love twi-nighters

  8. I went to a college double header ( only one ).

The Teams were Bethesda Big Train V.S Silver Spring Thunderbolts.

  9. All through Thirties, Forties and Fifties and well into the Sixties and Seventies, Doubleheaders were common and that allowed 1 day rail travel for the road teams while the Home teams rested or the players got sobered up.

Expansion in the late Fifties plus the advent of the jet plane at about the same time, signifigantly reduced travel times and the double header, at least for the Major Leagues, was introduced to a very quiet fadeout.
