There main job is to keep the younger horses relaxed. The stable pony is the horse that is walking by a racehorses side.

Another famous racehorse who is a current stable pony is Funny Cide.

When Funny Cide retired, they decided to keep him around the track as a lead pony too.  Since both Lava Man and Funny Cide have always lived at the track, they're happy there, and they're still really useful horses, so it's silly to send them out to pasture for the rest of their lives.  A day will come when they're retired to a farm, but for now, they'll stay at the track with their racehorse friends.
