  1. no because they still have the rest of the team and Bay is fitting right in so stop crying because your team sucks and cant get on national TV

  2. It's called ratings and the Red Sox do get the ratings

  3. It is about ratings. The Red Sox do get major ratings throughout the country and that's why Fox has so many of their games. It's also why they, the Yankees and the Cubs appear so many times on ESPN. As good as some west coast teams have a chance of being, they don't get the ratings on the East Coast like the Red Sox or Yankees do.

  4. yeah i agree its annoying. they need to show more exciting teams like the twins and rays and cubs

  5. as mentionned, ratings, and the three hour time difference. also, ratings, 2 of the nations 5 largest media outlets are Boston & New York. also, given the impact Manny had on the team, the country will want to see if the Sox will fail or prosper without him..

  6. maybe. even espn had that problem of not covering other teams. they didn't even cover the rays and cubs when they were the best teams in baseball- they focused on the red sox and yankees. ichiro gets his 3,000th hit in his split time between the us and japan? let's cover the red sox! so who knows

  7. Absolutely not.

Trading Manny has almost nothing to do with that equation. It has more to do with the country-wide fan base that they have generated [though, when you are dealing with a "country-wide" fan base, you are dealing with bandwagon fans. Just like the Braves and the Bulls in the mid 90's, the Yankees from the late 90's  / early 2000's and now the Red Sox.]

The only thing that will get Fox to stop showing the RS every week is for another bandwagon team to come along. If and when the Cubs win the series, they will definitely become a band wagon team. So, we can all look forward to that.

  8. I hope we start seeing the teams now in contention more often now.   I think they waited on showing teams like the Rays until they were convinced they are for real.  Tampa Bay in first place on August 1 should be enough to show that the Rays are indeed the real deal.

I wish Fox would bring back doubleheaders for Saturdays...you have five of six divisions still really up for grabs.  Plenty of opportunity for some great games and something that can go up against college football.

  9. First of all, the so-called "east coast bias" exists for a reason.  It's all about the money.  Half of the east coast is in bed by the time West Coast games start, and that hurts ratings, so of course here are going to be fewer nationally televised west coast games.  Simple economics.

I think we are going to see more Chicago and LA games now (both AL and NL in both cities), because those are the teams that are playing the best.

Finally, the Sox are the champs, that's why they are on. The New York Yankees still get lots of play too, even though they haven't won in 9 years.
