No I won't be changing I will stick with my 1996 Mitsubishi Pajero no change in road tax £180 per year and I will continue to run it on bio-diesel. So if you want a 4x4 buy pre 2001 plenty of imports with low mileage about at good prices.

Not until my car actually needs changing. To change from my Mondeo 2ltr it will cost me at least another 5k with the part exchange. If I am paying say another 200 a year then 5k buys a lot of years. Added to that the Part Ex value will go down even lower as the date for the higher tax gets closer. I get an average of 39mpg on this car so it is not really a gas guzzler. The whole green thing is just an excuse to raise more tax to pay for the 2 wars that Britain is involved in.

Hi,

I heard today on the news that Road Tax is going up in England.

In Ireland the Government introduced a new type of car tax which they say is to "Help the Environment"????. The Green Tax as they like to call it.

Another excuse to collect revenue.

Anyway, I am now paying 289euro a year for a 1 liter engine.

I am wondering at the coincidence of both our Governments implementing the same policy in the same month.

OOPS!!! Sorry, I forgot this is from Europe[EU].

We are so lucky to be part of this caring organizations.

Buy a cheap car abroad, register yourself there and come drive in the UK to beat sodding Brown !

I already have a small engine car and can't afford to change it anyway, so I will just have to pay what they demand.

You don't need a smaller engine, just a smaller co2 output. The BMW 330d or 335d will be cheaper to tax than a Ford Focus RS.
