Now that hockey's over.....?

Are any of you just as passionate about another sport? Being from da 'Burgh, I'm obviously a die-hard Steelers fan in addition to being a rampant Pens fan (sorry, Bucco's, I've been waiting 16 seasons for something to cheer about, but hey, the park is awesome!). I've been watching the Pens since about 1988 and got into the Steelers circa the 1994 season. I can safely admit I am just as crazy for one as I am for the other.

Do you have another team or sport that you are nuts about or are you just strictly all about the hockey?

  1. I'm a huge Chicago Cubs fan and a casual Dallas Mavericks fan.  I follow the NFL for gambling purposes.

But i don't follow any of those 3 sports as intensely as i do hockey.  As a matter of fact, i usually jump in to follow whats going around after the all star break for baseball, the playoffs for basketball, and well, NFL from the start because i gotta get those good odds!

  2. sometimes i will try to watch a baseball game but i don't understand it and i fall asleep but i root for cardinals (because cardinals are my home team) and red sox.

  3. Besides rooting for sharks during hockey season:

NFL:Minnesota Vikings(they will surprise everyone and reach the super bowl!!!)

NBA:Philadelphia 76ers(if the get Elton Brand WOOOOOOOO)

MLB:San Francisco Giants(i don't expect much from them)

AFL:San Jose Sabercats(they will be back to back champs this yer)

Golf:Tiger Woods(who else are u supposed to root for)

MLS:San Jose Earthquakes(god dam houston stole our team)

    Tennis:Rafael Nadal(WOOOO HE WON WIMBLEDON)

and that's about it but there are college teams but im too lazy.

  4. I guess just Purdue Football which, by comparison to Detroit Lions football, is legendary.  Baseball season has no beginning or ending, they just play 240 games a year, continuously.  Purdue Basketball is over, as well as the Piston's hope at winning another championship.

  5. I'm a die hard Iggles and Phils fan since birth and I'm not used to seeing the Phils in first place in July so that's a new experience for me.

  6. Hockey is #1. If i was to pick a favorite Baseball team It would be the Yanks, Foosball the Eagles but I'm not religious about watching them like hockey. And the Basketball I could care less, but let's get "Tropical"

  7. play lacrosse it is definitely the 2nd best sport in the world(other than hockey).  Pittsburgh doesnt have a team but u should root for the boston cannons

  8. I'm a huge fan of pretty much all Boston teams. I'm a die hard Red Sox and Patriots fan. I never miss a Patriots game, unless I have hockey during it. :P. The Red Sox are a whole different story, I live for the Sox. And then theres the Celtics, I usually don't watch them..but I watch a few games of the regular season, and then this year I was finally able to watch them in the plyoffs.. :D

  9. Hockey was over for a while. And yes, I am passionate about golf. I might be going to the Canadian Open this year to watch the guy who beat Tiger "No one watches hockey anymore" Woods.

  10. I play and really love soccer, and try to watch it when it's on. My favorite team in Manchester United, but they aren't on much in the U.S.

I am in love with Michigan football as well, along with any other University of Michigan sport. Michigan football is so rich in tradition like Red Wings hockey, and I love it watching it so much. and the experience of going to the Big House is amazing itself, whether we win or lose.

  11. I am a HUGE Yankees fan since the day I was born. I watch pretty much every game and it drives my GF nuts, because I make sure we go to dinner in time to get back for the game.

I became a huge Eagles fan when they drafted Donnie McNabb, so I am really looking forward to this season for them as well.

I also really enjoy watching the Olympics so I've been catching some of the trials on TV.

    **That's funny! Congratulations.

  12. I am a really avid Penguin fan, I also like the Steelers a lot.  I have given up on the pirates a long time ago.  In fact I say the only things we can count on are death, taxes, and the pirates being below .500.  During work I have called home to ask about Penguin game or Steeler game scores if I am not near a radio to hear the game.  I ask about goals, assists, how well fleury is playing in net, or if the steelers are playing well besides the scores, ben's stats.  I don't have the luxury of planning things around the hockey or football games wish I did.  Actually I do like the AFL and I am also rooting for the san jose sabercats especially considering who is in the other conference championship.  I watch tennis I liked watching the classic serena vs venus women's final as well as federer vs nadal.

  13. When hockey season is over I tend to watch baseball. Living in NY, I mainly watch the Mets Games because I prefer them to the Yankees. However, when the Mets aren't playing and there is no hockey news or anything interesting to watch on the NHL Network--I usually turn on a Yankee game. I do not root for the Yankees unless they are playing the Red Sox---I do not like Boston.

  14. Some guy or movie, I dont remember were I heard it from, said "The only thing I hate about hockey is that theres an off-season" and thats pretty well sums it up. Id follow lacrosse but St. Louis doesn't have a team, Id also follow soccer, but we dont have a team....yet...

  15. I pretty much only cheer for the Avs. As far as sports go I like swimming, gymnastics, and volleyball.

  16. I don't really keep up with any other sports. But I occassionally watch some Nascar or baseball.

  17. I am a die hard fan in any sport:

    NBA - Portland Trail Blazers

    NFL - Detroit Lions

    MLB - Los Angeles Dodgers

    MLS - Los Angeles Galaxy

    Tennis - Andy Roddick

Not to mention i play street hockey and lacrosse.

  18. Hockey's it when it comes to any real dedication. . . and it's been that way since '91 ish.  When the Pistons are in the playoffs and I am not watching the Wings. . . I will watch them.

  19. As for team sports, it's pretty much hockey.  I watch soccer occasionally though.  I'm a huge fan of tennis.  Go Djokovic!

  20. these summer months, i go into shock and withdrawal. it is a form of torture for me. I wish i had 288's class to appreciate golf. and several of members of my family play it. it seems attractively relaxing, yet challenging. but it's a hard sell to the wife and mother of our 2 kids under 24 months to devote any significant portion of time and $$, when the house needs fixing, and we need a new A/C unit, and our couch is 30+ years old.

i've given up on baseball (chubby guys spitting, scratching their crotch and re - tightening their gloves after every pitch, and sometimes (if their lucky) not having to break out in a full run the entire game, etc.), and after the Tiger's one "blip" on the radar screen in 2006, since 84. although i don't blame or judge any avid baseball fans; good for them. some people like vanilla; some chocolate. i LOVE going to games in person, but MLB games hurt my backside (wallet shrinks). (somebody would make a killing to put an AA or AAA ballclub in SE Michigan ... Troy, Royal Oak, etc.)

thug ball is too much of a score-a-thon, and strategy seems to be lost in struggles between the clearouts of superstar talents going one-on-one.

football is the only other sport that is regularly televised that gets me excited. what other sport has 11 simultaneous battles going on at once? the level of strategy goes as deep as one can appreciate. to quote Shrek, "like an onion; it has layers". so that can fend me off for awhile.

but hockey owns my heart. i like soccer (the REAL futbol) too, but MLS is only a replica of the original, and i don't get Champions League or premier leagues. (yes, i know they have the packages. can't afford it. see earlier point.)

so... that all being said. liquor helps to assuage my grief. admitting my reliance is the first step. agreed, the Olympics will help by providing a curious distraction. at the very least, it will be humorous to see the media maim and eviscerate every possible angle into some type of political agenda and exasperate the athletes w/ questions that detract from the actual accomplishments.

  21. RED SOXXXX!!!!!

    <3 JACOBY!!!!

  22. Nope. I live right south of Pittsburgh, and I can say I can't stand the Pirates or the Steelers. But that might be because I hate football and baseball.

I do watch a little bit of soccer.......But only the Euro's. Now that the Euro2008 is over.....I'm left with nothing, and I wasn't happy at all with Spain winning. Dang Russians were suppose to win.......oh well.

I'm strictly hockey though. I schedule things in real life around hockey.

  23. Right now, it's IRL and Baseball. The Olymipics are quite fun to watch too,

  24. I am mainly passionate about hockey both watching and Playing. During NHL off season. I d watch the marlins play baseball as well as when foot ball starts I watch the Dolphins. (yes they sucked last year ). But Hockey is number one with me
