Question:

Now that it's a scientific fact, global warming is coming.........?

.......whether by natural cycle or manmade, is anybody pulling together any idea of what they will do in 10-15-20 years, when the horrendous effects will be umistakeable?

It may not kick the present generation in the face, but only a fool would deny the impact on our children.

And for those who want to throw a little sarcasm at this, go for it....chicken little/50's fall out shelters..............but take a wild guess who among your fellow citizens, will experience the last laugh.

By the way.......theres a 60 point checklist.........forget the obvious.....water, food, etc.,.

Just want to see if anybody else is concerned enough to at least plan something.

  1. Don't forget Greenland.  It will be green in the near future. We all know that that has never happened before.  It couldn't be cyclic.  It couldn't reverse itself because the snow is melting at a constant rate and that rate has always and will always be constant. The data proves this. Or does it?

Remember the air pollution, water pollution, overpopulation scenarios that made a lot of sense when applying certain data. Unfortunately, 30-40 years later. Wrong.

Remember the oil running out? You still hear it and they say 10-15 years.  Well, they've been saying that for 30-40 years.  Perhaps, the agenda is what matters and not the facts.

  2. Man is certainly adding to things - and we need to adjust our  population - and consumption.

Recent sun-spot records show we may be starting the next 23 year cycle. So - that's more radiation for us. More cancers, more deaths due to heat-waves, and freak weather.

Hospitals are being prepared for major investment in disaster planning - Strengthening of buildings, training and supplies to cope with earthquakes, tidal waves, floods, and huricanes.

    Good luck to all humanity.

  3. Maybe this will make some folks sit up and take notice. I find it glaring PROOF of the coming effects of AGW!

  4. Prevention may be too late, however, the changes to climates is difficult or impossible to predict, so planning is difficult. What we know is:

Low lying areas will be flooded with ocean water, including much of Florida and the Everglades. It could be two feet within our lifetime. Within 100 years it could be as much as 200 feet (as the ice on Greenland and other land masses melt).

Ocean currents will change unpredictably causing unknown changes to rainfall and temperatures resulting in crop failures and starvation. Some area get warmer, others colder. Arctic regions are warming right now.

As ocean temperatures rise, more energy is available to feed  megastorms. You will see more powerful storms along the coasts and inland. More rainfall in some areas, and less in others.

On a positive note, the Northwest passage along Canada's Northern boundary will open up allowing a new shipping channel. (Countries and corporations are already position themselves to take advantage of this economic boon.)

The fact is that these combined effects will devastate the world economies and lucky people will just need to make do with a much lower standard of living = less energy, less new stuff, less heat, less food, and perhaps food riots.

The US government is a bit ahead in the planning for civil unrest by reducing civil liberties and passing laws allowing domestic spying. The government has a large number of detention camps spread throughout the country and already manages to inprison at a rate 7 times that of Canada and 12 times that of Japan.

It may come down to survival of those who have mentally prepared for this eventuality. You cannot get too attached to having 'stuff' because that's not of primary importance. Psychologically, you need to be prepared to give up most of your worldly possessions and home(s).  You may need to migrate and learn how to survive in the wilderness.

It may seem a bit extreme, but we face an extreme world crisis. The first people impacted will be poor countries in low-lying coastal areas.

  5. Build a house on medium ground, build it with a cellar but have a room inside with no windows, and of small size to make it extremely strong,

this I thought of anyway before choosing a plot of land and designed my own house plan. For me that was logical, for any disaster. Some people just don't think.

    C u in the future.

  6. They say global warming makes it rain more,

thats frightfully bad news for me-I'm an avid camper you see.

  7. Where's the checklist?

I just noticed that Lake Mead may be dry by 2014... 6 years... a huge problem for us here in the Southwest.

I assumed that we had decades.  This could all be coming much faster than we expect.

Lake Mead Could Dry Up by 2021

    http://www.livescience.com/environment/0...

The study’s findings indicated that there is a 10 percent chance that Lake Mead could be dry by 2014 and a 50 percent chance that reservoir levels will drop too low to allow hydroelectric power generation by 2017. There is a 50 percent chance the lake will go dry by 2021, the study says.

"We were stunned at the magnitude of the problem and how fast it was coming at us," said study coauthor Tim Barnett of the Scripps Institution of Oceanography of the University of California at San Diego. "Make no mistake, this water problem is not a scientific abstraction, but rather one that will impact each and every one of us that live in the Southwest."

  8. Global warming caused by man IS a fact, it seems that only the US is denial about this! The evidence is there and the experts agree, and to be honest I'd believe them over somebody who has an economic interest in convincing you otherwise.

However, there won't be a time when the world collapses (there is a theory, but that's all it is for now). It's going to be gradual change that will mostly affect certain people in certain place.

What you can expect is mass immigration from northern africa and other places that will be made almost uninhabitable.

There will be economic problems due our continuining reliance on non-renewable resources and our slowness in taking any action to prevent this.

You can expect mass extinctions and the loss of coral reefs.

As far as planning goes -  it's out of the question. Your goal should be to stop this happening in the first place! The future is by no means determined.

  9. You question does not make sense.  If it is a natural cycle, what can we do about it.  As for global warming coming, it is still too early to tell, but it appears like we are heading for global cooling.  The energy of the sun has dropped.  I hope it picks up, but if does not, we will have drop in temperatures the likes we have not seen since the little ice age.

  10. it is NOT a scientific fact that global warming is coming. ...there will be no  horrendous effects that  will be unmistakable. You watch too many environmental movies like the day after tomorrow.

    just to add...

you said one very important thing "not in our recorded history"... which only aids to cyclical trend theory.. i agree  very much with the user that  says science does not make fact..for in order for a statement to be scientific it must be falsifiable...since you believe " that it's a scientific fact, global warming is coming" your statement is not scientific.

  11. "Scientific fact"???

Not even 'Big Al' has said that!

  13. Well said.  BTW--mind posting a link to that checklist.

And a suggestion--you might want to shorten the time  frame.  No one knows wha tthat's going to be--but from what I'm seeing, we a re very  possibly going to start seeing serious effects in as littleas 5 years.  That's scary, I know. But we are closer to the edge in some areasthan most people realize.

  14. Science does not postulate FACTS, it produces theories.

    Math produces facts.

This is what Einstein meant when he said "No amount of experimentation can ever prove me right; a single experiment can prove me wrong."
