  1. I would think 2-3 years for minor leagues. They already have a decent 3rd baseman in LaRoche so they will not have to rush Alvarez to the majors


  2. The plan for him is to report to the Florida Instructional League immediately, then he will play in the Arizona Fall League. Next season, he will start out in either Low or High Class A depending on how he does in the AFL. If he continues to develop, he could be a September 2009 call-up to the Pirates.
