  1. the first guy who answered the question is, i cant say dumb but not smart, 2012, end of the world my ***, 2012 and global warming is a myth

  2. Yes.   The arctic is frozen.  There was actually more ice this year than there was at the peak of last year, which indicates the sea ice might be coming back.  Since things in nature almost never continue on a linear path like dana here thinks, I would imagine the ice pack will be around a little longer this year, and probably wont shrink quite as much.

Why are there "caution: polar bears" signs in alaska, canada, and russia....  could it be that they CAN live on land if they have to?  There is no way they will allll go extinct, there will always be some to survive.

  3. The Arctic freezes every Winter.  The problem is when it melts in the Summer making it difficult for Polar Bears to find adequate food.

Jan. 2008's Arctic ice extent is still smaller than all but the last few years:

  4. The arctic re-freezes every winter, Einstein. I'm going to remember your name so I can let you know when it melts again this summer. It freezes again, but it's thinner and easier to melt every year.

  5. We do not measure the ice  cover in winter, but in early September. The last measurement available shows an awful lot of open ocean.

Has the arctic ice thickness returned? Now this would be predictive of how much expanse would melt away in summer. But every winter we have been seeing ice cover return, just with progressively less thickness.

It is highly likely that polar bear starvation is in a significant degree a result of lower population and weight of seals, which points again to a significant reduction in numbers and particularly weight of fish in the ocean. Freezing and thawing of the ice pack does not necessarily  drive that.

  6. Of course it froze, it's the winter!

In the summer the arctic ice will continue to melt more and more as the planet continues to warm.  The arctic seas may even by ice free by the summer of 2012.

  7. no leave the environmentalist up there.

the polar bears need to eat too.

a treehugger should be easier for the bears to catch then a seal.

  8. well boy,im sorry to inform you but,

The artic has not Frozen, people are making it worse, because of the global warming...

  9. What is scary is that girly probably does teach our children.  I agree with you except that we don't have to withdraw the environmentalists.  They set off on an expedition to show how warm the Arctic was getting but they had to be evacualed on account of cold and that they nearly got frostbit (anecdotal but a true story).  Dana is right that it warms more in the summer.  I am not much of a Nostrodumass so I won't be making to many predictions of the weather 2 months from now and certainly won't try for 2 decades or 2 centuries.

  10. Are you really a world renowned biologist?  How many peer reviewed scientific papers have you published on the subject of Polar Bear habitat? Any links? Any proof what so ever?

Don't  you realize that these kind of troll questions are a violation of community guidelines?  This is a category where real scientific discussions of fact can be heard, and commented on. Rumors and false claims for personal or political reasons are not productive or wanted. It has become apparent that the majority of the members of the "Cult of Deniers",are just religious fundamentalists!  The false claim that it's just part of the 'natural' cycles ,is just code for Creationism beliefs. How this became a religious issue is very disturbing.  Will the 'fundies' all be running around like chickens with their heads cut off, screaming about 'Revelations' when a climate disaster strikes? That's what I think will be the case. Did you ever wonder why there is no category on Evolution on YA? That's because there is no more 'debate' on the scientific possibility of Creationism being the explanation of how the Universe and life was formed. You can 'believe' anything you want, just don't push your simple beliefs on intelligent people! Save that for missionary projects in the undeveloped countries.

  11. No, of course not.  They have to have some presence there to justify their massive government grants to prove something that's just not true (the "fact" that global warming is caused by humans).

For all the global warming lovers out there, let me ask you a question: If we're finding green trees buried in layers of this melting "ancient" ice that's supposedly been around longer than humans have, how did they get there in the first place?  (Hint: it may not have always been this cold, and it wasn't humans fault that time, so MAYBE it's not our fault this time, hmm?)
