Question:

Now that the Yanks are more than likely done, who should I root for to be in the World Series?

I'm leaning towards White Sox/Cubs, but I really dont want there to be a Mets/Red Sox world series. I wasnt alive in 1986 but my uncles, my mom, my aunts, everyone tells me it was the longest week of their lives. I really like the city of Chicago (DA BEARS! DA BULLS! DA AIR...MAN!) but I also like the Tampa story, I cant stand the Angels and I want them out in embarrassing fashion (unless they play the Sox) . I hate the Phillies (because I hate the Eagles, 76ers, and Flyers).

Any tips?

  1. Cheer against the Mets. Couldn't hurt to jump on the Rays bandwagon?

  2. Root for no one. Be a Yankees fan to the death.

You can root against the Red Sox, but that's about it.

  3. If Tampa goes, at least you can have some pride that they are in the AL East.

  4. DONT ROOT 4 ANY1 JUST WAIT ANOTHER YEAR thts wat ill do im a mets fan.

  5. how bout your home team? if they don't make the playoffs, deal with it. i'm an orioles (i live in bmore) and dodgers (my dad played on them) fan and i'm gonna take epic fail proudly.

  6. jumping the bandwagon eh buddy? i guess ur not like the other yankees fans. and you shouldnt hate the phillies they are very likeable

  7. They should trade for roids infested Melvin Mora. He should clear waivers with his inflated salary.

  8. If the Yankees don't turn things around, I say the World Series match-up could be between the Mets and Rays.

  9. It's only August 21st & until the Yankees are mathematically eliminated from the play offs, I have hope & faith in them & if they don't, I will probably root for the Diamondbacks or Mets but root against the Cubs & Red Sox

  10. no one

  11. Go with the Rays... it'll at least be a little comforting to know that the team that killed you this season is a legitimate team

And you want them to beat the Mets handily to give you something to fight back with when your friendly neighborhood Mets fans try to rub their success in your face

Something like "Look what happens when you try to play against the teams we were dealing with all year"

  12. I think you should root for Rays-Cubs.  First, you like Chicago, so the Cubs take care of that.

Since you hate the Angels (and obviously the Red Sox), here's what you should hope for: Sox win the WC, Rays the division (and Rays have best record in the league).  Sox sweep the Angels out, all blowouts (that would be pretty embarrassing).  It would be hard for you to stomach the Sox moving out of the first round, but I think the next part would be worth it.

The Sox and Rays have a tight, well-played series that goes to 7 games.  In the 7th game, the Sox go up 5-0 in the 5th and are feeling comfortable with Beckett in clear command and Papelbon looming.  Then the Rays score 1 in the bottom of the 5th, and 2 more in the 6th, and the Sox fans start to sweat.  They don't score in the 7th, but tie it in the 8th on a 2-run home run by Jason Bartlett, who has 0 this year and 10 career.  Percival gives up a run in the 9th, and the Sox fans can taste another Series.  Paps get two outs quickly.  Then Iwamura walks, and Crawford gets a bloop single, putting men on first and third.  After Crawford steals second by the slimmest of margins, Upton hits one right at Youkilis...who botches it.  The ball rolls slowly into right field, and the Rays win.

Granted, that sort of thing doesn't hurt as much now that they've won the Series a couple times, but still, I have to think that would suck.  Also, that way you get to have your AL East teams represent (at least you can say you were in a really tough division), and the Red Sox lose.

  13. Never assume the Yanks are done until they are actually done.  As Yogi taught us, it ain't over 'til it's over.  And it ain't over.

But Cub manager Lou Piniella is worth rooting for.

  14. You d**n bandwagoner.. ditching the Yanks just cause they're losing... but to answer your question, go for the Chicago Cubs

  15. Rays. I dont think there is anyone other than a Red Sox or Yanks fan who isnt hoping they make the playoffs and rooting for this incredible story.

  16. go for the dodgers. now that they got manny they are go to the world series and will play the angels and the dodgers will win!!!!!

  17. How about the Rays.  At least you are staying ion the same division.

  18. If you're a true NY sports fan, you'll root for the Mets. No GOOD NY sports fan ever turns his back on NY.
