Now that two "phenomenons" have passed, tell me...?

Do you think you could be the next JK Rowling or Stephenie Meyer (before Breaking Dawn, I mean) and have the ability to cause the same reaction these two series have caused?

What do you think even made these two series so popular?

and... Harry Potter is different than anything out there. They was J.K. Rowling writes them are brilliant. People like new things. Most novels out there are similar to others, but Harry Potter was completely original.

I don't think I could be the next J.K. Rowling...But I'm sure someone will write books just as good as hers sometime in the future! Harry Potter is such a magical book...It's so brilliant that it causes people to take notice. The reason that it became so popular is partly because of the movies...I had never heard of Harry Potter before the first movie came out. But ever since then, I've been obsessed with it!

Sorry, I can't be the next "pop literature" author since I'm in med school right now.

But honestly I think it has a lot to do with luck because I know there are many books out there which do not receive the attention they deserve.

Anything can happen, but I doubt any of my writing will get the fame of Rowling or Meyer. Rowling had a multi-million dollar idea, and I don't have any of those right now. Meyer figuered out what kind of guy makes teenage girls go (literally) insane, which I would never want to do. I'm not sure if I want the fans Twilight gets. The girls that scream "OMG EDWARD IS SO HAWT". I want fans that will appreciate my writing as well as my characters. And I defininately DON'T want fans telling me how they don't think any guy is good enough after they read about the one in my story. Those kind of fans aren't worth having.

As to how they got famous, I think most of it is a mixture of marketing and sheer luck. I know many fantasy series (The Bartimaeus Trilogy) that are better than Twilight but don't get that attention. Maybe it's because no one thought those books would do well, so they didn't waste a ton of money in marketing. Maybe fans already had a good series to drool over at that time. I think a lot of it is a matter of good timing. Twilight came right after Harry Potter, so many of the Harry Potter fans started reading it. But who knows for sure how these books get so popular. It surely isn't because they're the best written books out.

I've never read the twilight series by Stephanie Meyer But I think that the reason that Harry Potter became so big was that it was like the first fantasy book to come out in years. So it got some attention. It has been a fantasy era now. It's about to end, but what started it was Harry Potter. Or it wasn't the first, but the most noted one and then I don't know.
