definitely not the best, definitely not the worst.....I'd focus on getting Jagr or Shanny back because its going to be a very different team next year....should be fun in the Atlantic again though.....

Nice list of overpaid underachievers.  I would argue that the Wings defense would make NYR's defense look like a mini-mite house team.  I would also argue that Anaheim and Chicago (although we will have to see) have defenses comparable to that of NYR.  Nobody is close to Detroit yet however, and probably won't be for a while.

Hmm... Redden, Roszival, Tyutin, Staal, Girardi... then bringing up someone from hartford?  we only have 5 defensemen right now (we lost Malik, Mara, and Strudwick), so I don't know how you can say they're the best in the league.

In case you missed it, the Wings didn't lose any of the players from their league best defense.  Until the games are played, the Wings still have the best defense in the league.

Lidstrom + Rafalski + Kronwall + Stuart + Chelios = greatest defense!

There's a reason the Wings let in the fewest goals last year... give credit to the goalies... but three future HOF d'man for sure... Kronwall and Stuart are very very good physically and offensively... and chelios brings great veteranship and is amazing at stay-at-home defense...

I'm sorry but title of best defense goes to the Wings.

Nope.  I'm liking Lidstrom, Rafalski, Stuart, and Kronwall better.  You guys have a good defense, but by far not the best.

I'd vote for Detroit having the best.  I'd say the Rangers-ON PAPER-have one of the top 10 defence's, but the best?  No.  Also, remember that just because you have good individual players doesn't mean they will play well on the team.
