Now we have the same number of gold medals as the USA (minus Michael Phelps), with home advantage in four years can we actually complete the 2012 olympics with more gold medals than the USA ? and can we top the medal table ? or are we too limited by number of sports we can compete well in (cycling, rowing, sailing and a bit of swimming) ?

  1. I think UK would be hard pressed to get more medals than USA.  You would have to beat the Aussies as well.  I think your home town advantage will work to some degree.  I wish you good luck for 2012.

  2. that will change with track and field. The yanks have a bigger althletics programme than we do. I think we will do well in London, but they have a better system. Given we only have 1/5th of the population, i think we can say we have done fantastically.

  3. I hope so.  We need to be put in our place in the world.  This country's arrogance is embarrassing.

  4. No chance - we're only good at the posh sports.

  5. All our medals have been won in the diddy sports like riding bikes and horses.

The Olympics proper with all the proper athletics has now started so watch us slide backwards down the medal table.

  6. Beat USA? Do you forget about China, Australia, and probably Germany, or even Russia( in case their perfromance in Beijing is a exception)?

  7. Go Brittons, go ! Come on, mates !

  8. We'd need to get our track and field up to scratch first.

  9. No, because England are a bit of a joke, even though we Aussies have been slightly disappointed in the pool, England have no chance of doing what your asking. You lost your strongest, toughest and best sporting gene pool to Australia!

  10. minus PHelps THE  aussies will kick but, do not forget Janna pitman in the 400M hurdles from here in Oz who is current world 400M champion pulled out of Bejing becasue of a toe injury she will be back to win Gold for us in London, and Nathan deakes in the walk who is world champ from OZ as he pulled out too becasue of injury but be sure that he will be back in 4 years to win Gold for us, and the womens beach volley ball, the rowing, the swiming in particular mate us Aussies are more talented and yet we do not even have half of the population as the US thank goodness. If we had half as many we would win so much more Gold than the US. Aussies are indeed one of the best.nations

  11. I was shocked to hear the arrogant comments about "which country you are from". I guess theyre saying that by looking at your profile picture.

Any way GB wont topple the US as they are quite far ahead in gold medals.

  12. You can't "minus Michael Phelps".

  13. Why are you minusing Phelps, in four years time there will be someone else as good as him no doubt.   But yes it would be good to be up there but don't hold your breath.

  14. Phelps plans to be there in 2012, and is still young.  If you take a baseball bat to his knee you might have a chance, but there will be other young American up and comers at that time so I doubt it.

  15. you have to include Phelps, so we are still third, and considering that even if we prove in every other area, so will everyone else.

  16. Don't ignore the China team

  17. We????  do you have a mouse in your pocker???  Seriously, where are you from????

  18. If you include darts snooker and Fox hunting as olympic sports your gonna p**s it in.

  19. i agree with the guy who wrote a comment first.

We've been getting medals in track, but none gold.

I think we could get to the same place as usa in 2012, it just depends how far the stars are prepared to push themselves.

  20. Wow, way to specify what country you're from.
