Question:

Now what do we blame on global warming?

Scientists have just discovered a volcanoe under the ice sheets of the Artic. This explains the loss of ice sheets in the 2% of the region which environmentalist blamed on global warming. Now what is next to blame on global warming? Maybe the -1 degrees in Green Bay during the NFC Championship game.

The Stop Global Warming calculator shows you how much carbon dioxide you can prevent from being released into the atmosphere and how much money you can save by making some small changes in your daily life. It’s our hope that the calculator will promote action, awareness and empowerment by showing you that one person can make a difference and help stop global warming.

  2. Honestly, I am only 19 and live in Pennsylvania.

Even though I hear it on the news so much, I still don't understand what Global Warming is and it's impact on us and the world!!

I guess the world is changing....just like the "Big Bang Theory"! What if the Earth is actually moving again. Do you think that will happen or is happening over time??

  3. idk i like pie www.pie.com

  4. We blame it for almost making the polar bears and penguins and all of the animals in the artic  any artic extinct.

  5. 98% of all ice sheets and glaciers are melting at an increasing rate. FACT. Humans are accelerating global warming so much so at this point it may not be able to slow down.

  6. you just made that up didn't you?

Man-made global warming and tobacco's link to cancer are ridiculous, but creationism should be taught in schools.

  7. Only if the Giants win.

  8. My persoanl opinion is that I really don't care. This political hot topic is nothing but eye candy to the Democrats. The Earth has its' own heating/cooling system. The Earth is covered in 72% of water, right? Well, the melting ice caps are cooling down the oceans, sooo the Earth is cooling itself down. Global warming?  Made up bs from Al Gore.

  9. A lot of these people don't even realize that Antarctica has been GAINING ice over recent years.  Right now the ice level is the highest is recorded history.

  10. What's the source of your volcano information? A neighbor? Rush Limbaugh?  Or what?

Is it so hard for doubters to actually provide links to the source of their supposed "evidence" against global warming?

Since you are so badly in error regarding a "2%" loss of arctic ice and provide no source, I don't see any reason to even consider your statement about a recently discovered volcano valid or significant. Scientists have long been aware of volcano's under the arctic, but you provide nothing to dispute or discuss.

In reality, early models predicted that the Arctic ice would melt at between 2.5% and 5.4% per decade.  As of 2007, it appears that the actual melt rate has been 7.8% per decade for the past 5 decades and it's accelerating.  That adds up to approximately a 39% cumulative loss (quite a bit different than the 2% you assert).  This chart shows the September ice sheet decline has been from about 8.5 million km^2 down to about 5.2 million km^2.

And volcano or not, the almost 2C warming in the 64N - 90N latitude region is causing a significant part of that melting.

Jame S - the melting ice does NOT cool the oceans.  In fact, it causes them to warm even faster because as the ice melts the albedo affect (the reflection of sunlight energy back out into space) decreases.  The ocean is dark, ice is white.  Place thermometers in dark and white painted boxes and you'll see the effect in action.  This is one of several negative feedback mechanisms (e.g. tipping points) that concern scientists because they can accelerate the heating well beyond what the human emitted CO2 would do alone.

  11. Let us start with what is real. Today here is what we know:  many of mankind’s advancements cause earth surface to warm, destroy the ozone layer, kill off endanger species, heat cities, and in some way cause more destruction.  Blacktop (roads and parking lots), buildings, air pollution (causes lung and other diseases), deforestation, duststorms (which increase hurricanes and cyclones and cause lung diseases), fires (cause pollution, mud slides, and deforestation), refrigerants (like CFC's), solvents (including benzene destroy the ozone layer raising skin cancer rates) and plastics; cars, airplanes, ships and most electricity production (causes pollution including raised CO2 levels) are human problems we need to fix to keep life on earth sustainable! The federal government needs to adopt a pollution surcharge to balance the field and advance new technologies. We must pay the real price of oil (petrochemicals) including global warming, cleanup and for health effects. But with that we must understand we have never seen what is now happening before. CO2 has never lead to temperature change, but temperature change has led to increases in CO2. The models have to be made as we go along with little evidence! The result is:  change is on the way, we just do not know what changes. But again adding a small amount of CO2 to the atmosphere enlarges the earths sun collection causing warming; increase water in the atmosphere and they form clouds cooling earth but causing flooding. Even natural events are warming earth and causing destruction. The sun has an increased magnetic field causing increases in earthquakes (more destruction), volcanoes (wow, great destruction), and sun spots. Lighting produces ozone near the surface (raising air pollution levels). But humans have destroyed half of the wetlands, cut down nearly half of the rain forest, and advance on the earths grasslands while advancing desertification which increases duststorms. The USA Mayor's have taken a stand and I believe are on the right track, we can have control and can have economic growth. With the peak of oil in the 1970’s, the peak of ocean fishing in the 1980’s, humans must stop procrastinating and make real changes to keep earth sustainable including in the energy debate, finance and regulation. The sun is available to produce energy, bring light to buildings and makes most of human’s fresh water. Composting is the answer to desertification. New dams are the answer to fresh water storage, energy and cooling earth by evaporation, we need many small one all over (California needs 100 by 2012 and has not even started).

President Bush has made a choice of energy (ethanol) over food and feeding the starving people around the world; this is a choice China has rejected.

  12. Global warming is a political hot potato. When environmentalist groups come up with an explanation some opportunistic politicians want to make a few scores and get a few votes. We need more scientific study without political interference.

  13. Had you read the whole article, you would have found this little tidbit of information...

"It may be possible that heat from the volcano has caused some of that acceleration," says BAS professor David Vaughan, who stresses though that global warming is by far the greater likelier cause.

Volcanic heat "cannot explain the more widespread thinning of West Antarctic glaciers that together are contributing nearly 0.2mm (0.008 of an inch) per year to sea-level rise," he adds.

"This wider change most probably has its origin in warming ocean waters."

I attached the link so that you could correct yourself.

  14. I think that Global warming may be real reason for the demise of superman.  LOL
