Is it still considered as a taboo, especially for women ?

And is there a kind of reticence from the landlords to accept single people or non-married couples as renters ?

  1. It depends on the person's family. If they are strict, they do not allow them. But, nowadays this has changed. People go to another cities for university, and after graduating they can live alone.

  2. I agree with TB.

In addition to that, I would just say that it also depends upon the families being traditionalist ( which most of times mean "strict" muslim ) or not...And of course, rural areas are supposed to be more traditionalist than urban areas ( except certain neighbourhoods ).

The social pressure is lighter on boys than on girls,though...

  3. Well, not really.

A young lady might want to stay at her parents' house when she has just started working, as new employee wages arenot very high, but some do leave the parental house afterwards. Landlords in modern neighborhoods don't create problems.

Having said that, I believe many girls would rather leave the house only upon marriage and their parents agree. So, even if it is not a general rule, I dare say more girls stay at home than move out.

Finding work in another city is an exception, of course.
