  1. It's hard to give an estimate. It actually would be best to call your local funeral home and ask them personally. Funeral homes deal with pre-planning all the time, it wouldn't be unusual at all to ask. You could discuss with them what you are looking for in a funeral and their fees.

  2. Here we have the Peoples Memorial organization which has cremation services for less than $800 once you become a member ($25). Check in your area for something similar. A person has to be a member before they die so it is not something you do afterwards.

  3. I am not sure what the average costs are. My best suggestion would be to talk to a Funeral Director about pre-planning your funeral. You get to pick out the services you want and lock it in at the current price by prepaying for your funeral. My mother and father-in-law did that. My husband and I pre-planned ours.

  4. It's hard to say since each funeral home probably has different prices for different services. I know in Ohio, where I am, the cheapest funeral is around $6000 and that is with the most basic of things.

  5. Depends on the area but in Chicago its around $8,000.00 Complete for a traditional funeral

  6. Really not a community service question, but ask a funeral home in that area.  They'd be more than glad to talk to you, though they'll probably try to get you to buy stuff.

  7. Having just gone through the ordeal of planning a funeral, I can tell you that if you don't go overboard and get the most expensive of everything offered, go graveside services, etc., you can get by for around $7,000.  Let me tell you tho, something I just realized...My mother pre-paid this funeral in 1980.  We were under the impression that pre-paying a funeral meant just that.  Not so....there are still many things you have to pay for.  The final cost for the "pre-paid" funeral is close to $2,500.  This is in Texas.  If you are considering pre-paying...ask about the charge for opening and closing the grave, having the hair fixed, casket flowers, newspaper obituaries, use of the family car.  There is also no partial refund if you pay for a funeral and change to only graveside. My sister cremated her husband about a year ago for $950.00
