  1. Catch a ride to Tennessee. They are set up for evacuees in Chattanooga, Knoxville, Nashville, and Memphis. Try Jackson Mississippi as well.

  2. I call bullshit on this one.  And if I'm wrong and you really do have the misfortune of being in this situation, I hope you stay in New Orleans.  Judging from your writing and your Yahoo Answer prioritization, I think your fate should be left to Darwin.

  3. If I were in your situation, I wouldnt worry so much as to a PLACE to go, JUST GO> get away from there, something will pop up wherever you go, they are sitting up stations throughout the area.Use your common sense, GO!!!!

  4. Get in the cars and drive north. Keep driving until you find a place to stay. This is not a joke or mean answer. I am very serious. Drive north as far as you have to. Illinois and Wisconsin have millions of rooms for you to stay in. I once drove from Miami to central Wisconsin without stopping except to eat and get gas. That is twice as far as you have to go. Now get moving.

  5. Call the American Red Cross on Mayfair Drive in Baton Rouge and see if any shelters have been set up in that city. Also check to see if any organizations are boarding pets during this emergency:

    (225) 291-4533

  6. i wish you the best of luck

  7. Don't bother looking for a hotel.  I'm in Ruston...our Civic Center and Temple Baptist Church are open to evacuees.  In Monroe, there are 2 shelters open, and I'm sure there are plenty in Shreveport.  You have options.  Don't be picky..get to a shelter.

  8. All the motels from Memphis to Jackson are already pretty much filled up already...Head to Tupelo, MS...they already have shelters set up and they are nice...There are also churches and smaller shelters set up in the smaller communities surrounding this area...Don't worry...you will be taken care of...just come on....NOW....

  9. Drive east and sooner or later you'll find somewhere but the idea now is to put some space between you and the storm. Don't worry about finding something.

  10. why would you go back if you're going to freak out this much. use common sense and don't live in a hurricane zone. people like you deserve it.

  11. im sure there are government contingency plans that goes hand in hand with the evacuation order. if you move north . west or east the towns people there will be expecting an influx of evacuese such as alocated hotels town halls ect ect and even football stadiums in the worst case senarios. but its all precausionary at the moment gustav may slow down as easily as he can intensify and could take on a new direction all together. why not get everyone on a bus and see where it takes you there will be assistence at the other side and its all over in a couple of days then you can send someone back to get a damage report. these are realy Biblical times weve had all the classic desasters all going on air crashes floods earth quakes looming oil wars with the beast from the east. deseas and famin and unrest all of biblical praportions the worst of everything ever known for hundreds and maybe thousands of years you are the ultimate exodus if you survive this theres hope for us all. go with gods speed my little freind! it seems like its all comming to an epical end but dont worry theres a storm comming it could be as bad as katrina or it could be less destructive this time but you are moving away from the danger of the storm concentrate on the jurney ahead. the authorities will be conducting the evacuations to a large evtent they can give you advise on shelter and provisions pack your valuables dont worry too much about material posessions they dont mater put them away wrap them up safe and leave batton down all the hatches bolt the roof down if your roof is secure thats good news for the rest of the house sand bag your bounderies. count yor losses when you return and count your blessings for getting away!! alternatively find some high ground in land away from rivers ect arange your five cars in a tight circle and camp out in the centre of the circle!!!!!!!!!! anyway i think your mayor looks and sounds like an idiot so i wouldnt take his word too seriously gustav will probably be a catagory 2 or 1 in 48 hrs time is all the army in iraq maybe they can help out

  12. I live in California you can stay with me.

  13. Just keep going north. Sit in traffic. It doesnt matter. Get away from there. I swear its going to be h**l like Katrina. I understand you dont want to calm down, but its the only way. Im so sorry and I understand you are scared and upset but im sure you have kids and if your stresses they will get scarees. Just take a deep breath and head north on a highway or something. I understand you have a dog and that will be hard. I even think hotels allow dogs. Maybe sleep in your car. Whatever just uss your brain and be smart and alert. I would definately keep you radio to see for Warnings and stuff. I think they actually just issued a mandatory evacuation somewhere near there. I hope you are ok. God bless you and i wish you luck with all my heart. : ) be strong

  14. Come and stay with me.  Just you though and no one else.

  15. barbie - call the Red Cross and find out what shelters are the closest shelters to you that they have set up in preparation for this hurricane.

  16. I can feel for you.  I went through a storm where they evacuated Miami and then every county up the coast of Florida. By the time the evacuation order came here, major roads were already gridlocked it took me 16 hours to go 30 miles.  Some people I worked with were gridlocked  on roads in Georgia for 2 days.

Your best bet is probably secondary roads. Head Northeast. Carry plenty of water etc..

    Crossing my fingers for you.

PS. If that storm winds up to a Cat 5, you want to be hundreds and hundreds of miles away. Memphis, Atlanta, Birmingham etc.

  17. Calm down. The storm is still at least two days away. You are acting as if it is hitting right now.

Go to the local police station or fire department. Ask them what you should do.

One last thing, you should be heading north and not west or east. Nobody is certain exactly where that storm is going to hit. it could be anywhere from the east-Florida to Texas towards the west.

    Go north.

  18. I'm a New Yorker. All I can do is pray, and wish you luck. This really sucks! I am so sorry for you, and the other folks like you who actually did something to help themselves, and it just wasn't enough. God Bless you, and your loved ones!

  19. This is a time to be in prayer. And I will pray for you all as well. As others stated, this is a time to contact local shelters and government office as they should be able to point you in a direction. Perhaps, ya'll should leave now and drive far enough away to a hotel.

  20. Personally I think you are a drama queen in need of attention...........or someone that is truly in need of mental help

According to the National Weather Service it wasn't even raining in Baton Rouge as of 10:32 pm a little over an hour ago.........

    August 30, 2008 10:53 PM EDT

    Wind  Calm

    Visibility  10 mile(s)

    Sky conditions  mostly clear

    Temperature  81.0 F (27.2 C)

P.S. - While it is still clear - move it............ there is a whole continent above you so keep moving until you reach a northern state or run out of gas or pass a police station

  21. If you can, go to this Red Cross website. It has TONS of info. about evac. shelters, etc...

  22. You have until Tuesday. call a busline near you, they will help. You need to get out and the bus company will help. Head to Indiana, I have a camper you can stay in.

  23. Is Baton Rouge already under a mandatory evacuation order?

It's two days before the storm hits, and nobody even knows where it's gonna hit yet - could veer straight west or east yet.

Get some sleep, watch the news in the morning, and plan appropriately.  Don't panic tonight.

  24. Grab some tents, sleeping bags, clean clothes, plenty of food (including pet food), firewood, stuff to pass time (playing cards, books, crosswords), a basic first aid kit, IDs, documents, and valuables and head North. Camping grounds will take people on short notice. Just head as far North as you can get. Using a camping ground also solves the problem of where to keep your dog (most camping sites are pet friendly!).

    Good luck and stay safe!
