Nowitzki’s 35 points help Mavericks lead past the Suns
The Phoenix Suns stumbled in front of Dallas Mavericks after defeating the Utah Jazz two straight times in a row. The fun began for the Dallas Mavericks when they took a 112-106 victory over the Suns on 17 February. This was the final game that took place
before the All-Star break begins on 18 February. The Mavericks have won for the 13th time in 14 games and they made a franchise record as they locked their 40th victory before the All-Star break began.
Dirk Nowitzki was electrifying in the win and became the right hand as he helped the team win the contest. The player scored a game high 35 points, nine of them coming in the final quarter of the game.
Nowitzki was very excited after the win and said, "It's definitely a fun way to go into the break."
Jason Terry contributed 16 points and dished out seven assists in the victory. Tyson Chandler scored a double-double as the player made 12 points along with 12 rebounds for the winning team. Shawn Marion posted 12 points and the Mavericks starters were startled
by the opposition who scored 78 whereas Dallas starters had 72 points.
The Suns have lost two out of three games and will enter the All-Star break with seven out of ten wins. Channing Frye contributed 24 points in the loss. Vince Carter posted 16 points in 32 minutes whereas Steve Nash had a good game for the Suns. The player
pulled out 15 points and dished out 14 assists along with five rebounds for the losing team.
With 6:43 remaining in game, the Mavericks saw their seven point lead being cut to 92-90 as Robin Lopez trimmed it by hitting two free throws. With 5:38 left in the game, the Mavericks still held the lead 94-92 but to make it even more secure, Nowitzki shot
two free throws along with a five foot jumper. Chandler also jumped in and Jason Kidd took a layup shot that edged the Dallas Mavericks with a 103-94 lead at the 3:14 mark.
The Suns held an advantage over the winning team by going 43-39 in rebounding plus taking a 52-42 margin in points from the painted area.
Even though the Suns lost but Lopez had one of the biggest games after a long time. The player scored 13 points and 13 rebounds in almost 25 minutes. This was his longest span on the court since 9 January, 2011.
Phoenix Suns had a bad third quarter in the game. The Suns were holding a 78-75 lead and Nash went to the bench with 2:42 on the clock during the third quarter. That’s when Mavericks found a chance to stop the Suns from shining further. The Mavericks took
a 10-2 run by scoring the final nine shots leaping on to an 85-80 lead over the Suns. They never looked back, of course. Even after the loss, Phoenix Suns coach was thoughtful about his team’s entry to the playoffs and was later quoted as saying, "I think
we're going to find a way to make a run and get to the playoffs."
For the Mavericks, Wednesday vs. Utah, February 26 @ Washington, February 27 @ Toronto . For the Suns, Wednesday vs. Atlanta, February 25 @ Toronto, February 27 @ Indiana.
