Japan’s spirited shuttler, Nozomi Okuhara reserved her place in the Women’s Singles main round as she crushed Canada’s Christin Tsai in the qualifying round match of the 2011 Canada Open Grand Prix, in Richmond BC, Canada, on Tuesday, July 19.
The Japanese played incredible badminton throughout the match and stunned the local shuttler after a completely one-sided contest. Okuhara took only 24 minutes to defeat Tsai in the straight-set fight, where the Japanese dominated the game without any hassle at all.
The opening set of the game was superb for the Japanese, as she sailed quite easily against the Canadian, who was miles behind in every aspect of the game. Until the one-minute break in the opening set, the Japanese was leading the game with a stunning difference of 11-3.
Tsai increased her speed to reduce the score difference, but failed to stop her firing challenger, who was playing to her full potential. Okuhara executed powerful smashes on the side lines of her rival’s court and earned many points as Tsai failed to defend the attacking play of the Japanese.
By playing perfect badminton, Okuhara dominated the game against the confused Canadian, who failed to match the speed of the rallies. The Japanese clinched the opening game without any sort of resistance and won it by a dramatic margin of 21-6, in just 12 minutes.
In the second game of this qualifying round match, the Japanese progressed with immaculate pace and remained ahead of Tsai. With the score at 11-3, Okuhara was in control at the interval of the set. The Canadian failed to deliver well despite having the support of the home crowd.
After the break, Okuhara continued her smooth run in the match without facing any trouble from her opponent. She won the second game with a wonderful margin of 21-5, in just 12 minutes and confirmed her place into the main round of the Canada Open. The concluding result of this one-sided 24-minute qualifying round match was 21-6 and 21-5.
