Nozomi Okuhara tames Sayaka Takahashi to grab Women’s Singles title at Canada Open Grand Prix
Japan’s impressive player Nozomi Okuhara showed her class and claimed Women’s Singles title after crushing her experienced team-mate Sayaka Takahashi in the final battle of Yonex Canada Open Grand Prix 2012 at Richmond, Canada, on Sunday, July 15.
Nozomi, who was un-seeded in the draw, remained impressive in all matches of the tournament and continued her staggering run against Sayaka in the title match to earn glory in an inspiring fashion.
The in-form Nozomi was just uncontrollable on court as she faced no trouble in taking the bird early from all areas of court and easily overpowered her country-mate in straight games by consuming just 32 minutes on court.
On the other hand, Sayaka failed to remain consistent in her giant killing performance in the tournament and bowed to her team mate in the final clash without putting up strong resistance.
In the first game, both ladies played impressive badminton and remained close as they knew each other’s game quite well.
The score progressed closely at the initial stage of opening game and reached at 6-6 when Nozomi showed a spectacular performance on court when she grabbed five consecutive points to earn a superb 11-6 lead until the mid-game interval.
After the one-minute break, Nozomi did not let her compatriot to draw near at any stage as she was confident and consistent in her positive play.
The perfectly placed shots in all corners of the court helped Nozomi to grab the first game with a remarkable 21-8 score on the board.
In the second game, Nozomi continued playing positive badminton without losing her focus throughout the opening half.
In the meanwhile, Sayaka also tried to play aggressive game to stop the advancements of her talented team-mate but failed to produce finishing strokes.
Nozomi was leading the game by a decent margin of 11-8 until the one-minute interval.
After the break, Nozomi remained on track and also played at the same speed which helped her to end up the second game with a good margin of 21-16.
Nozomi won Women’s Singles crown by ending up the final battle in straight sets with a 21-8 and 21-16 score on the board.
