NRI,s can not purchase any Agriculture lands in India. To be more precise, no Indian can purchase any Agriculture lands in India, unless he is from an Agriculturists Family.

But you can do so only after getting the required permission from the local Government. In your case you have to approach the Revenue Department of Government of Karnataka. For more details please log on to www.revdept.kar.nic.in.

May be right!They turn agricultural land for construction because they are able to turn their knolwedge into countless money- NRI's dont consider the fate of agricultural RI's.
