Question:

Nuances in Bush's speech?

Am I alone in reading a subtext in Bush's speech at the Republican Convention?

To me, there was an element in his message that said 'to save innocent American citizens we're going to bomb innocent foreign citizens'.

Is 'Good and Bad' just a spin for 'Us and Them' which at least keeps dubious morality out of the equation?

  1. If there was a subtext in his speech, he certainly wouldn't have realised.

He probably can't spell subtext, never mind write a speech with one in it. However; since there's absolutely no chance anyone let him write his own material (wouldn't want the crowd laughing at the comedy that would ensue) there's an excellent chance someone made it morally ambiguous deliberately.

Incidentally, did I hear something properly or did I just imagine it? It was on the radio early yesterday morning and I was half asleep... but did I hear someone introducing McCain to the crowd with the words 'he'll continue to show Americans that it is right to look after number one?' I admit, when I heard it, I thought it was Rich Hall taking the p!ss, but nope, it was the announcer at the conference.

  2. bush is unable to comprehend any race that doesnt live by "the american way" so will happily treat them as THEM. He is a moron. McCain seems little better.

  3. Yup, he said McCain would start preemptive wars.

  4. what can you expect from the butcher Bush and his apprentice's . Bush does nae mind killing the innocent for profit and oil, the American sheeple just go along with what they are told so long as the price of oil comes down.

and they can keep their heads in the sand and fain ignorance of the govt.  i listened closely to his speech and laddie i can nae find any truth in it
