  1. Sign up to the telephone preference service - takes about 3 months to kick in but it works

Other tips:  if its to do with home improvements of any sort say you live in a council house or a grade 2 listed house.  Other from that you could always say that you're emmigrating next week.

I always make a note of the company name calling me and ask them politely to remove me from their database.

The ruder you are the more chance they will keep you on the list for the h**l of it (I work in a call centre - those who are polite I offer the option to take them off the list.  Rude people stay on it)

    Good luck

ps.  Not all call centre calls are pestering calls - I do the job to earn extra money to pay my way and they are never cold calls I make they are to established customers - I am always polite as my parents taught me to be - why be rude to call centre staff - we are not mind readers to know that you're bathing your kids, eating your tea or whatever - a simple reply like I'm busy at the mo, do you mind calling back later please?  If I get that I always thank them for being polite to me and call them back at the exact date and time they requested.  Quite easy really - how were you all bought up???

  2. Contact BT, they can put a block on calls the suspect to be nuisance.

  3. i just changed my no. with bt for the same reason.

it took 10 mins to change and get new no. that is x directory.

just tell ur new no. to the people who u want to ring u

  4. Do what I do.  Blow a loud whistle down the phone.   They leave me alone now.

  5. Call this number 888-382-1222  to be put on  the "Do not call list" for cell and land lines.

  6. YOU CAN GET ON THE NO CALL LIST OR JUST START BITCHING BACK THEM THEY HATE THAT I KNOW I DID IT AND THEY QUIT CALLING ME CAUSE I WAS NOT PLEASANT

  7. Telephone Prefrence Service - jus google seach it and find the site - register and in a couple of weeks the calls will stop.

In the meantime - you have the right under Data Protection Act to ask them to remove your number from their database - they cannot refuse to do this

  8. yes, register with TPS, the telephone preference system.  It's free and takes about a month to come into effect once you've registered

    http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/tps/

it should stop the sales calls and if it doesn't, tell them when they ring up that you're TPS registered and they'll hang up pretty quickly as they can get a huge fine

  9. Get intouch with BT, they will be able to block the caller.

  10. when they call ask them...

Are you aware you have called a business?? they leave you well alone!!

  11. Scream down the phone at them until they hang up. I don't think they'll ring you again :P

The TPS is a great idea, definitely one worth trying. There's a link to it in my sources below \/.

  12. Change your number & go Ex- directory. Then if you receive any further calls , which is unlikely , you can tell them that you went ex-dir., to avoid unsolicited nuisance calls. It worked for me.
