As far as cheap products and comparatively high pricing for them- K MART or Big K it's called in some states.

As far as customer service- definitely Wal Mart.

As far as boring, poor selection and WAY too many identical items on the shelves just to fill space- Target.

You said DEPARTMENT store, but if you mean a retail store in general, that's definitely LOWE'S!  Or at least my local Lowe's.

I was surprised to see someone say TJ Maxx.  Here, it's about the best as far as customer service, great selection of quality merchandise at fantastic prices.  I get my $200 Tahari jeans there for $40 or less.  LOVE that store!

For selection, customer service, and general atmosphere: KMart.

Actually, WalMart is pretty much the same, they're just more crowded. So probably them.
