Number Theory gives trainer, John Holt time to shine
Halling’s four-year-old bay gelding has conquered the races at Haydock almost ever since the 2012 season kick started. Besides the seasonal debut which is a third place, the rest three races are neatly lined up as victory posts for the John Holt trained.
His most recent dominance was in the Bet365 Old Newton Cup (Heritage Handicap) on 7th July at Haydock over a mile and four furlongs. With jockey, Russ Kennemore onboard Number Theory went headway chasing the leaders with four more furlongs remaining. The pursuit went on for the next two furlongs.
The four-year-old out of mare, Numanthia, geared up and headed into the final furlong battle, holding the runner-up, Quiz Mistress, back by a neck’s margin.
Coming at terms with the third position was, Tepmokea.
"We started coming here because the owner's family live round here and it's just snowballed from there," said Leicestershire-based Holt.
"We might have to think about the Ebor now. I think he'll stay the extra two furlongs."
The proud owner, "I never thought he'd win like that. Now he's won three here in a row. I must be very lucky. "I told John what type of horse I wanted and he paid 9,000 guineas for him at the Newmarket Sales."

Number Theory won the very first leg of the hat trick in the Taylormade Betting Handicap on 24th May, 2012 at Haydock over a mile and four furlongs.
The favourite entry of the race went full swing by the time there were three more furlongs to go and by the time two of the furlongs went down, the four-year-old was in an undisputed control of the final furlong.  He defeated the runner-up of the race, Loden, by five lengths.
Taking up the third position was, Arizona John.
On 13th June, the Mohan Fonseka owned gelding won the Trust Inns Publicans Handicap at Haydock over a mile and four furlongs.  Following the pattern of victory in the last race, Number Theory dominated the final one and a half lengths of the race, and set Tmaam in the second slot.
If he will be able to extend the hat trick further or not remains awaited and if the fifth outing will be at Haydock itself or a different venue has not been disclosed yet.
