Number dyslexia?

my frend has a problem with maths he puts the effort in but he says the numbers make him dizzy, his reading is perfect but maths is a huge problem. is there any form of dylexia or other ilness tht could cause this? thank you! quickest most interesting answer wins 10 points. c, x

  1. Yes there is!  It's called dyscalculia.  And it is a form of dyslexia but related to numbers and solving equations.


  2. It is called dyscalculia.  I have it, and it only involves numbers.  I am an avid book reader, and don't have any problems reading words, but numbers mix me all up!

  3. Dyscalculia is correct. But if he gets dizzy it might have to do with anxiety related to his possible dyscalculia.

Sure it could be dyslexia, but it would be odd for it to be isolated directly to numbers.  It still could be nerological...where the brain function of reading words, smoothly from left to right, is different than the vertical reading used in Math.  Have your friend try to write out the the problem and see if it feels more solid to him.  (5+5= ? would be five plus five, equals?)  Could be his eyes too, could need glasses.  It could also be that he just isn't very good at math.
