Question:

Numbness in your foot?

the past three days, I've done pretty well right up until the middle of my second mile. Then I get a dull ache in the middle of my right calf and my entire right foot starts to go numb! What the h**l is that? I stretch a good 15 minutes before and after my 4.3 mile run and I even do a short warm up walk. It happened again tonight and my leg is still hurting (i'm icing and elevating it as I type). Should I be worried or is this just a regular ache and pain (I'm training for a 5K in three weeks)?

  1. it's normal. you are doing a good job taking care of it too. the more you run the more muscle you build up. it's just something you have to get used to. if you keep it up you'll be ready for a 5k without a problem.

usually, runners will get a weakness in their legs while running distance. same with you, numbness is another result. it's basically the muscle saying "too much" but if you run through it, it becomes stronger.

don't worry too much. just give yourself time to rest and then get back into it. if it continues after a longer time or doesn't go away talk to a doctor or a couch. other than that, you should be fine.

    i hope i helped!

  2. I'd suspect you're wearing your shoes too tight and/or have a lacing issue.

You might need to remove a pressure point by not lacing across a place or two (see the first source link).

I assume you've been properly fitted for shoes at a running store? Doing something like wearing a stability shoe when you shouldn't could cause something like this.

If the shoes and lacing are truly okay, you may just need to do more stretching and perhaps try wiggling your toes periodically during your run, though there are potentially some other medical causes of such things (see second link).

  3. around 2 miles? this happens to me in my long runs.......in first two or so miles my legs give up,feel numb and heavy. but if i just run it through after couple of minutes it feels great ,strched and normal.

and streching and icing really helps u so good job wit that.
