  1. It depends.

First, whose skill is higher? Let's suppose the skill of both fighters is equal. Then, can the knife be thrown? If yes, and provided the skill of a thrower is high enough, the opponent is dead before he can do anything. And here again, if the opponent has a good reaction, he might dodge - then he is a winner by default.

If not, nunchaki win the day.

  2. The problem with the nunchaku (or any flexible/semi-flexible weapon) used as a striking weapon is the time it takes for the second hit (assuming you make the first hit).  Presumably, the nunchuck would rebound back, and you'd have to quickly change it's direction to commence your second attack.

In other words, combos might not work so well.

A knife on the other hand, wielded by a GOOD knife fighter (thinking Silat / Kali / Eskrima), will get you cut and stabbed 5 times in a second easily (likely on the extremities - arms).

If that nunchuck doesn't knock your opponent out or misses the head (say gets the shoulder or back), it won't disable him/her.  That could give the opportunity to the knife fighter, even with the initial range disadvantage.

This is from someone with almost no nunchuck experience, and moderate knife experience.

  3. If both of the opponents have the same skills, the knife would win if that person strikes first. If the nunchaku strikes first, the knife would have a hard time. However, if the knife manages to get in close enough and possibly disarm his or her opponent, the knife would win even if the nunchaku swings first.

  4. I'd choose the nunchucks for a fight. They hit hard and have a greater striking distance. Just one hard hit to the head and they're OUT!

  5. If the person using the nunchucks was well trained and using them in the traditional way, as more of a locking and trapping weapon, with some striking, rather then the way it is portrayed in the movies as a flail, they would stand a very good chance.

If the person using the nunchucks used them like in the movies, they would die against somebody who was good with a knife.

No one understands anymore how to use nunchucks as a combat weapon.

  6. The one who runs and gets away.

If either stays and fights they may win or they may lose and quite possibly die. If you run and get away you live. I would call that winning. Ask anyone who has had a relative murdered with a weapon what they would define as "wins". Think about why you are learning self defense...

  7. nunchaku because it has more range.

if the nunchakician was really good he could tangle the knife in his nunchuks and dissarm his opponent

  8. It is not the weapon, but the hand that wields it.

  9. nunchaku, strike to the hand and head and its all over

  10. In the hands a master the nunchuck should break the other persons nose, arm and leg before they have even time to draw a knife.  But in practice it depends of who strikes first.  A knife would kill much faster as you could only beat soemone to death with a nunchuck.

  11. knife fighters are formidable fighters, depends who controls the situation or how one approaches it. a knife fighter these days are sneaky and have their long sleeve over their knife and sneak up from behind and stab multiple times, a knife can be thrown too and it can land right if the fighter has been practicing right.

a nunchuk....it all depends on the skill of the fighter, i believe a nunchuk user can win, if he or she's smart
