Nungnadda Wannasuk cripples Yafan Wang to lift title – Chang ITF Pro Circuit 2012
Local starlet, Nungnadda Wannasuk, slaughtered the Chinese challenger, Yafan Wang, with a breadstick at the Chang ITF Pro Circuit 2012 on Sunday. She jolted down a 6-3, 6-1 victory against the 18-year-old to grab the title at this ITF (International Tennis
Federation) Women’s Circuit event taking place from 10th to 16th December in Bangkok, Thailand.
Seeded fifth in this event, Wannasuk displayed brilliant skills to outclass Wang in their first encounter. After ruling the match in almost an hour-long marathon, the Thai comfortably grabbed the title at this outdoor hard court tournament.
Wannasuk made a convincing entry at the Rama Garden Sport Complex. She drew the first blood in the early game and took the initial lead. Apart from losing her edge in the seventh game, the Thai remained focused and got the breakthrough, eventually sealing
the opener by winning six games to three. She dusted away two out of three breakpoints she came across and converted two out of four break opportunities to her advantage.
Ranked 426th in the WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) Premier Rankings, Wannasuk moved up a gear in the following set. She quickly winded up the opening three games before Wang could snatch a break back. The Thai then maintained her intensity and
reeled off the last three games and clinched the set with a breadstick. She failed to block the only breakpoint she came across but marked four out of three break chances to achieve her goal.
The 23-year-old triumphed over the Ukrainian qualifier, Oleksandra Korashvili, with a breadstick to reach this final spot. The Thai also stunned second seed, Wing-Yau Venise Chan, in a three-set thriller en route to the final showdown.
Wannasuk hasn’t had much success in this season’s bigger ITF event. She exited from opening round at all the tournaments she played this season. However, the Thai got her breakthrough at the Bangalore ITF in March where she cruised to the quarter-finals
through qualifiers.
Wang on the other hard made an epic comeback to upset eighth seeded Deniz Khazaniuk to secure this spot. She recorded a 1-6, 6-3, 6-1 score line against the Israeli seed.
