Nungnadda Wannasuk stomps over OIeksandra Korashvili to reach final round – Bangkok ITF 2012
Fifth seed, Nungnadda Wannasuk, triumphed over the Ukrainian qualifier, Oleksandra Wannasuk, in straight sets at the Chang ITF Pro Circuit 2012 on Friday. She nudged up a 7-6(4), 6-4 victory against the Ukrainian to power into the final showdown at this
ITF (International Tennis Federation) Women’s Circuit event taking place from 10th to 16th December in Bangkok, Thailand.
The local seed overpowered Korashvili with the support from home crowd. After recording the victory in one and a half hour, Wannasuk comfortably secured a spot in the title-round at this outdoor hard court tournament.
The seeded Thai made a comfortable entry at the Rama Garden Sport Complex. She got the coveted break early in the set and jumped to a 3-0 lead. Wannasuk lost her edge afterwards but capitalised on another break chance and put her nose ahead again. She lost
her serve again and after exchanging another break of serve, the set went to a tie-breaker. Wannasuk went berserk in it and eventually sealed the opener with a 7-6(4) win.
Ranked 426th in the WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) Premier Rankings, Wannasuk maintained consistency in her game in the following set. She swiftly pocketed her entire serves and prevailed. The local starlet cashed the lone break chance in the
last game and eventually sealed the set by winning six games to four. She blocked both breakpoints she came across and converted one out of four break chances to her advantage.
The 23-year-old stunned second seed, Wing-Yau Venise Chan form Hong Kong, in a three-set thriller to reach semis.
Korashvili on the other end crushed Hong Kong’s Ho Ching Wu with a breadstick to secure a place in the final four.
Next challenge for Wannasuk is the Chinese contestant, Yafan Wang, who stunned eighth seed Deniz Khazaniuk in a three-set nail-biter to set up this meeting.
The Chinese contender made a drastic entry at this tournament and lost the opening set with a breadstick. However, she found her rhythm in the second set and eventually levelled the set scores. Wang went out of control in the final set and ultimately clinched
the decider with a breadstick.
