  1. When I did a search on nurgrass, all I found were sites promoting planting it for wildlife feed.  I'd suggest that you ask at your local garden center or plant nursery how to kill it.

  2. The weed is called NutSedge, and you need to google Sedgehammer. You mix a spoon (provided) in a gallon of water, and spray the lawn. Within a week, it will be gone

  3. There's nothing you can spray now.  Nutsedge is a real obnoxious weed, if you pull it you leave behind the root "nuts" which start new plants.  Since the roots can extend many feet down and out, think of all those litte buggers underground waiting to start new plants....grrrr.

If this problem has been going on for a few years, then the tubers are well established.  Chemical warfare that involves killing the grass as well as the sedge will be necessary.  Roundup would have a go at the tubers (nuts).  Another thought is to dig up and remove the grass as well as at least 8 inches of soil, replace the soil with fresh stuff that has not had sedge in it before and then replant the lawn.

I don't know how to gently say this, but you've got a big problem. Here's a website on nutsedge:

  4. you can find quite an assortment of broad leaf weed killers in your local garden center...the larger the garden center the more of a chance you'll have a variety to choose from...truth is you don't need a variety...most hook up straight to your hose and cover about 5,000 sq ft.  next spring, depending on what part of the country you live in...around late february to mid march you can put down a granular form of a weed preventative, scotts makes a great one.  it forms a barrier on your lawn that prevents weed seeds from germinating...that way you don't end up with any thing "taking over your lawn"  just a few here and there that will be much easier for you to take care of.
