Nuri Sahin to Real Madrid – not an ideal deal for the Turk or the La Liga side
After the final whistle blew at the Signal Iduna Park last Saturday, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nuri-Sahin-c28251 wasn’t the only Borussia Dortmund player who had tears in his eyes following a fantastic Bundesliga triumph. It was Die Borussen’s first league title since 2002 and was even
more significant than the previous triumphs as no one expected the club to finish the season in such fashion.
Naturally, Borussia Dortmund’s success meant that many clubs started monitoring the quality laden young team. The likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Neven-Subotic-c27632 were being closely monitored by top European clubs
almost throughout the entire campaign. One player though, stood out for the Yellow and Blacks.
Coming back to Nuri Sahin’s tears – those weren’t just the tears of joy but sorrow as well. When a journalist asked the youngster about his future, he said, “I don’t want to talk about it, it’s a private thing.” It is fair to say that the Turk did not want
to dampen the joy of his teammates and the Borussia Dortmund fans. For weeks, the youngster was linked with a possible move to La Liga giants Real Madrid. Last Sunday, Sahin announced that he will discuss his future at the club and it was looking more and
more likely that the young playmaker would eventually leave Spanish pastures. Perhaps this transfer saga is not a badly kept secret like that of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Manuel-c23383 Neuer’s imminent/protracted move to Bayern Munich; it might be hurting for both Sahin and Borussia Dortmund.
Currently, Real Madrid boast 13 midfielders in their squad, five of whom play in the same position as Nuri Sahin. Lassana Diarra, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alonso-c5254 all play in position’s similar to that of Sahin’s. Rumours suggest
that Lassana Diarra and Fernando Gago might leave the club in the summer transfer window. However, this would still leave Jose Mourinho with a lot of options in the midfield.
No doubt Sahin is a proficient ball player, a talent who is comfortable with possession of the ball and has innate awareness of time and space around him. He can be possibly seen as a direct replacement for Sami Khedira or even http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Xabi-Alonso-c37045, but the question
remains. How would the Turk’s qualities be utilised? And at whose expense would Sahin play at Real?
For most part of the current campaign, Jose Mourinho has deployed a 4-2-3-1 formation but has switched it to 4-3-3 whenever the team has played against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604. It remains to be seen if Mourinho would use 4-3-3 formation next season in order to accommodate
Nuri Sahin or not. With this formation, Nuri Sahin can easily pair up with Sami Khedira and Alonso which creates a multi-functional midfield. However, this could lead to the loss of an influential playmaker – either Mesut Ozil or Kaka. This is definitely not
an option for Real Madrid as Mesut Ozil has been one of the best players for Real Madrid this season – and arguably in the whole of Europe.
Furthermore, Sahin might not be bringing a major impact in the Real Madrid side next season. Due to the established nature of many Real Madrid stars, Sahin might be restricted to substitute appearances in his first season. Many feel that German International
Sami Khedira is an unsung hero at Real Madrid as he expertly complements Xabi Alonso’s wide range of passing expertly. In all likelihood, Sahin might be left biding his time on the bench – a trend that has become more and more common with new arrivals at Real
Madrid in recent seasons. With competition for starting places expected to be even more intense in the 2011/12 campaign, Nuri Sahin’s growth as a player at Real Madrid might be hampered.
Though Sahin is undoubtedly one of the best players in Europe in his position, Real Madrid might not be the right club for the Turkish International. Real Madrid’s approach towards game-play under Jose Mourinho is not similar to that of Borussia Dortmund’s
under Juergen Klopp. The newly-crowned Bundesliga champions deploy a very direct approach in terms of attacking, something that Sahin might not come across on a regular basis in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011.
Nuri Sahin’s departure to Real Madrid might be a decision that could hamper Nuri Sahin’s progress as a player. The Turkish International would be joining the club on the back of a strong season with Borussia Dortmund, so expectations would be high when he
wears the white jersey. However, if the youngster fails to sign early, it might be a bad move for the youngster who has so far delivered what he promised since his professional debut for Borussia Dortmund in August 2005.
