Nuria Llagostera Vives and Anna Tatishvili sail into the second round of qualifying draw at the Sony Ericsson Open
Nuria Llagostera Vives defeats Tamira Paszek
2008 Copa Sony Ericsson Colsanitas winner Nuria Llagostera Vives kicked off the 2011 Sony Ericsson Open in Miami with a win on Monday. Llagostera Vives dismissed the world number 89, in an attempt to book her spot in the second
round of qualifying draw.
Spaniard, Llagostera Vives, wiped off her contender in three straight sets 6-2, 3-6, and 6-4. Playing their second match of the year, Llagostera extended her winning streak to 2-0 in her favour.
In the opening set, the Spaniard registered an impressive first serve percentage of 81 per cent as compared to Paszek’s 59 per cent. However, she did not record a notable winning percentage on it. She only managed to convert 59
per cent of first serves into points while her opponent was slightly better, winning 63 per cent of points on them.
The second set was not alike the previous one. This time Paszek broke her Spaniard opponent in the 9th game and took the set with a 6-3 win.
Paszek recorded an outstanding first serve percentage of 89 per cent as compared to her previous one, whereas the Spaniard registered a meager 64 per cent. However, they both did not stamp an outstanding winning percentage on it.
The Spaniard only won 56 per cent of her first serves, while Paszek was slightly better with 58 per cent of points.
Paszek saved 80 per cent of her break point opportunities and won the second set with 6-4 score.
The third set saw the game ticking on even terms by both players. However, Llagostera stood victorious on account of her winning percentage of the first serves. She registered 61 per cent of points from her first serves, whereas
her opponent lagged behind with a meager 40 per cent.
Anna Tatishvili defeats Patricia Mayr-Achleitner
Georgia’s Anna Tatishvili outplayed Patricia Mayr-Achleitner, a sixteenth seed here, in two straight sets 6-4, 6-3. The Georgian took 1 hour and thirty one minutes to expel the Austrian out of the tournament.
Given their first meeting on courts, the Georgian moved one up in the head-to-head score after her straight sets win over the Austrian.
The first set saw the Georgian playing tremendously, registering an astounding first serve percentage of 82 per cent compared to Mayr-Achleitner’s 62 per cent. However their winning percentage on first serves was not that different
as the Austrian won a meager 43 per cent, whereas Tatishvili won slightly better than her opponent with 52 per cent.
The second set saw, Mayr-Achleitner’s delivering an impressive percentage of 83 per cent in comparison to her opponent’s 70 percent. This was not enough for the Austrian to break her opponent, who saved 75 per cent of her break
point opportunities and book the second set to her name again.
Georgian broke her opponent in the 9th game and clinched victory for herself with 6-3 set score.
Nuria Llagostera Vives and Anna Tatishvili will be facing each other for the first time in the next round of the 2011 Sony Ericsson Open.
