I really want to work with children, I have no previous experience with working with children, i left school and went to college and then straight into work, i now work in sales and find it boring and the same everyday.

I cannot afford to go back to college and train or do night lessons!

Do any Nursery's train you up right from the begginging??

I am willing to work for minimum wage as long as i get help getting the qualifications.

Can anyone help me with this, if you can give me any names of local nursery's i live in Chertsey, Surrey

thanks

  1. call your local council and ask

    they are better informed

  2. Have you tired to applying for money from the state. The program is called FASA.

  3. It is possible to become a nursery worker without qualifications, but it is an advantage to have at least three or four GCSEs/S grades (A-C/1-3), preferably including English and maths. Young people can start work in nurseries as assistants and train on the job, and some employers offer Apprenticeships. Alternatively, young people can start by taking a full-time college course.

Nurseries welcome applications from mature candidates who have raised their own families. There may be opportunities to start as a volunteer, and progress to paid work and training.

There are numerous qualifications for which nursery workers can study. Those who work with children unsupervised must have a Level 3 qualification or higher. In Scotland, registration of nursery workers has been introduced.

  4. Try the Pre-School Learning Alliance. I have recently secured a job with them as an unqualified Nursery Assistant. I am just waiting to for my CRB check to go through and I will start work in the next few weeks, they are going to put me on an NVQ 2 course in childcare while I work.

Scroll down and choose the area you live in, be aware though that because the end of term is coming childcare jobs will be few and far between at the moment.

Here is another Nursery I was going to apply to but was then offered my Job, it's Private sector so the pay is likely to be minimum wage you can print off an application form for this site if you find a nursery of theirs in your area.

  5. Yes, nurseries do employ unqualified play assistants and any decent nursery will support you through your qualifications. Good Luck!

  6. get an apprentiship I did one with the YMCA

  7. To be an assistant you can enter without training but you must be willing to train...this will usually involve college some days and rest of week at the nursery...thats how level 2's usually work now-a-days but some have assessor who come to you so you'd have to ask.

The bad news is that most setting wont hire workers if they dont have any qualification or experience...not whilst there's so many students and NVQ2 qualified people around. The emphasis these days really are on qualification as childcare is now considered a professional job not just an easy "sit and play" job as some think it is.

If you work as apprentice you will not earn minimum wage you get an apprentice wage of usually £40 per week.

To find local nurseries go to:

    http://www.childcarelink.gov.uk/index.as...

send them a letter or give them a ring and see what they say.

PS: In meantime why not do some volunteer work whilst you're at your other job-eg: day off or cut down shifts at other job if you can afford to. That gives you some experience to boost up CV!

PPS: In childcare these days training is ongoing-this mean you will be expected to ungrade your training regularly which WILL mean going on courses in the evening and sometimes at weekends-so make sure its really the job you want to do!
