  1. Learning through play is very important. By age 4 ,at least in the US formal, traditional letter and number recognition is essential. Hence, the need for pre-school v.s. nursery school.

  2. age one is birth to about 3 the other is 3 to 5 depending on when the birthdays lay

  3. I don't think there's really a difference.  The preschool my kids attend -- the name of it is ____ Nursery School, but that's because it's been around for 60 years.  That's what they called it back then.  Everyone pretty much refers to the school as a preschool.  They thought of changing the name to ___ Preschool several years back but decided to stick with the historical name.

  4. nursery is when the teachers just watch the kids play and stuff but preeschool is when the teachers teach the kids stuff before kindergarten

  5. Nothing, nursery school is what our parents went to, verses what we now know as preschool.

As for JUST PLAYING??????  No matter what kind of school your child goes to State Preschool,  Head Start, or private a preschool experience gives them the chance to play, yes, but in this "play" they learn SOOOOOOO much!

In the house area they learn social roles, as well as love for things like caring for people as a doctor, or how to change a diaper to help their mom and dad out at home.

In the block area they learn about spacial relationships, math, architecture, and they build their small mototr skills nessasary for writing.

In the music area they learn more about math because all music is writen  mathmatically, as well as inproving thier verbal skills.

In the writing area they can focus on learning about numbers and letters as well as things like where to put the addresses on a letter, and how to fill out a check.  (They might not get the exact idea mind you, but the learning is begining.)  They can also use puzzles to learn more about spacial relationships.

In the science area they learn about how the world works.  What plants need to grow, what animals need to live, in some rooms even what colors to mix together to make a new color.

In the math area they match colors, shapes, sizes.  Count,  make patterens.

In the book area they learn to respect books and learn a love for them so that they can go on to be a person who understands that books are good to read and help you learn.

Finally, the art area lets them explore how to make things.  How to draw, they work on their fine motor once again they cut, play with play dough, and glue on small collage peices.

Outside they learn to balance, swing, hop, skip, and run.  Yes, all of these are fun for them, but  meanwhile they are learning to control their bodies gaining gross motor skills that will help them to be able to run and play like any other child, and concentrate better on the academic learning that they are acquiring.

Yes, preschool is about playing, but as you can see from the FEW examples I have given you, you daughter WILL NOT be JUST PLAYING!

And, all though the day she will be learning how to work with other children. Her social skills will be brought to new heights so that she can know how to share, take turns, and  use her words to resolve issues rather then her hands!

You will be amased at what your daughter can do at the end of this year!

I hope she has a great time in school!

  6. i think that pre-school is for kids from ages when they're born to 3 and nursery school is from 3-5 then you go on to kindergarden and so on and so on.
