What would be a good nursery rhyme to make up a dance to for a pre-school graduation? We already have "the grauation melody" and That what friends are for.

  1. have children standing in a circle or rows, holding hands

"make new friend and keep the old"

"one is silver and the other's gold"

    children raise hands (still holding)

"a circle is round, it has no end"

    make a circle with fingers

"that's how long i want to be your friend"

children put there arms around each others shoulders

  2. There is one we play.  I can't write the tune down here but you could probably find a suitable tune.  You have two groups, one in a circle and the other inside the circle, they can be equal sizes or a smaller group in the middle.  Every one sings:-

As I was walking down the street, down the street, down the street.

As I was walking down the street. Hi ho, hi ho, hi ho.

The people inside the cicle stop by some one and shake hands and sing

A very good friend I chanced to meet, chanced to meet, chanced to meet

A very good friend I chanced to meet, Hi ho, hi ho, hi ho.

Then the couples join hands and dance as they sing.

Zippity zip and away we go, away we go, away we go

Zippity zip and away we go.  Hi ho, hi ho, hi ho.

Then the people who were chosen from the outer circle go into the middle and the song starts again,

Or you could do 'There was a princess long ago'
